padaria Santa Efigênia, go before 8am

yep, but the line at 7:45 is mostly locals grabbing pingado at the counter, so just squeeze in there instead of waiting for a table.

Second this, get teh coado not the espresso

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

honestly the pastel de carne there is worth the early alarm on its own. just dont roll in at 8:30 expecting the good stuff, the balcão crowd clears it out fast. cash only too i think

Vintage Coffee is solid but the real draw nearby is Café Floresta on Rua do Arouche, better beans and far less crowded on weekday afternoons.

weekday afternoons at Arouche are the move but grab a pão de queijo from the padoca on Rua Aurora before they sell out around 11

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

agreed, their pão de queijo sells out by 10 tho

Floresta's cold brew is what I'd actually go out of my way for, and the counter seats by the window beat any table.

Visiting Sao Paulo next month and staying close to Vintage Coffee & Emporium, is it worth a stop for a proper coffee or should I look elsewhere? Also curious if they sell beans to take home. If you're after beans rather than a cup, there's a small torrefação a couple blocks over on Rua Augusta that roasts weekly and labels the date, which Vintage doesn't always do. For drinking in, Vintage is more of a sit and linger spot than a quick espresso stop. Bags there run around 60 to 80 reais depending on origin, so worth comparing before you commit.

stopped by last trip, the espresso was fine but i'd walk ten min to a padaria for a real cafezinho, and yeah they sell beans by the bag

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

agreed on the padaria walk, the one two blocks down on rua matias aires does a solid pingado too. their bags are fine but ask for the roast date, half the shelf is older than it looks
