Do I need a CPF before any bank will talk to me, and which ones are actually workable for foreigners in 2026? Also curious whether Wise or a similar card is enough day to day instead of fighting the paperwork.

CPF first, no bank moves without it, but Wise covers rent and bills fine short term while you sort the paperwork.

agreed on the order, but add a comprovante de residencia to the list, banks want a utility bill in your name and a hotel letter often gets refused at the counter. Inter or Nubank tend to be less painful once the cpf lands

Inter charges a fee for the boleto, so factor that in.

that utility bill thing is teh real bottleneck honestly. Nubank might dodge it sometimes but dont count on it. wise card covered most of my stuff anyway.

the bill is the whole game tbh, some people get by with a declaração from the landlord instead. contas de luz in ur name is the surest thing though

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah the bill thing tripped me up too, some landlords will hand you a contrato with your name on it which sometimes works. worth asking before u sign anything.

Best coffee near Pedacinho de Amor Sandra & Cia in 2026?

Stopping by Pedacinho de Amor Sandra & Cia on my first trip to Sao Paulo next month. Is it more of a sit-down cafe or grab and go? Also wondering what the coffee and pastries run price wise. I stopped by there on a trip last year. It's a small bakery counter setup, mostly grab and go, with a couple of stools if you want to stand and eat. Espresso was around R$8 and a pão de queijo or croissant ran R$10 to R$14. If you want a proper sit-down coffee, walk ten minutes toward Rua Harmonia in Vila Madalena, plenty of options there.
