Only been once while staying nearby, but Fri and Sat after 21h it fills up, and the bolinho de bacalhau is the move over the fries.

Agreed on the bolinho, though I'd add that Thursdays draw a smaller but steady crowd if Friday's wait puts you off.

Wednesdays are dead though, went once and it was just me and teh bartender

Saturday lunch, before the futebol crowd rolls in.

fair point on Thursday being calmer. tbh i'd still shoot for earlier in the evening either way, it gets packed fast once the after work crowd shows up.

yeah thursdays are the sweet spot if u hate waiting. just get there by 20h cuz the after work crowd still trickles in later than u'd think. kitchen slows down too once it picks up

Go before 19h30, kitchen's calmer

Good call on the bolinho, the fries are fine but nothing special. One thing I'd add is the pastel de carne, it's easy to overlook on the menu but solid with a cold beer. Just don't count on much seating once the crowd lands.

Pastel de carne is worth grabbing too if you get there before the kitchen slows down.

The bacalhau holds up, though I'd grab the caldo verde too since it's easy to miss on the board and pairs well with a cold one.

Novo Sabor in Sao Paulo: worth the trip in 2026?

fmd_goodNovo Sabor · #restaurant #food #lunch
I'm visiting Sao Paulo for a week in March 2026 and Novo Sabor keeps coming up in food threads. Is it a sit-down spot or more of a quick lunch place, and do I need to book ahead for dinner? Weekday lunch around 1pm is calmer and the feijoada holds up, so I'd do that over dinner.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

March is still rainy season so build in slack if you're crossing town, traffic on Av. Paulista grinds to a halt when it pours. Novo Sabor is a proper sit-down spot, not counter service, and portions run big enough that two people can split an entree. Book ahead if you want a table after 8, walk-ins get squeezed near the door.

Go at lunch, dinner gets packed.
