Padaria Santa Efigênia, go before 9.

Fair warning they close early on Sundays, so don't roll in at 11 expecting much.

Weekend queues there snake past the counter by 8:30, so arriving at opening beats "before 9" by a good margin.

That tracks. Saturdays are worse than Sundays because the office crowd mixes in with shoppers. If you do get there at opening, the pão na chapa comes out fresh around then.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Saturdays the line moves slower since the cathedral crowd and 25 de Março shoppers overlap, so budget extra time.

Agree on the early start. Just note it's more of a bakery counter than a sit-down brunch, so if you want a proper table with eggs and coffee, you'll want somewhere else. Cash helps too.

Can anyone tell me where it is and whether it's worth planning an evening around? Also curious if I should book ahead or just walk in on a weekday.

I'm not in Sao Paulo, but I've been reading up for a possible trip. Novo Sabor is a bit of a moving target name-wise, so pin down which spot you mean before planning an evening. Weekday walk-ins are usually fine, weekends book ahead.
