I've heard visitors sometimes get quoted a higher price than locals at places around there, so what's the actual going rate for a standard brunch plate and coffee? I'm not asking whether it's fair, just what I should realistically expect to pay.

Around R$45 to R$60 with coffee, Praça da Sé side.

Pão de queijo and pingado, R$28 at the counter.

arrow_drop_up 23 arrow_drop_down

That range holds if you sit down inside, but the counter at some padarias near Sé keeps a misto quente plus coffee under R$35.

The tourist markup usually shows up as a separate couvert charge or an English menu with padded prices, so ask for the cardápio normal and confirm the couvert before ordering.

Yeah the couvert thing is real, also watch the "serviço" line at the bottom of the conta, it can add 10 percent on top.

Where to find Novo Sabor in Sao Paulo 2026?

I'm visiting Sao Paulo next month and a friend keeps telling me to try Novo Sabor. Where exactly is it and do I need to book ahead? Any idea what a meal there runs these days? Worth knowing it's a buffet by weight at lunch (por quilo), so you pay for what you take and it's easy to eat light. At dinner it flips to a la carte and the bill climbs fast. Check the unit's hours on Google before you go, some close between lunch and dinner.

yeah the por quilo thing trips people up, watch the scale at the end though, they weigh the plate with leftovers and all. also many units charge by weight only until 3pm or so, after that it's full a la carte

Most units close 2 to 4 on weekdays, so plan around that.

if ur friend means the per-kilo buffet style place, go at lunch on a weekday, it's cheaper and less chaotic. dinner is a la carte and runs higher. check if they take reserva on the app before u trek across town, some units only do walk-in.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

good call on checking the app first, some units only take reserva by phone and the line is brutal at peak

the moema spot on alameda dos maracatins is the one i'd aim for, easier to get a table and the feijoada at lunch is the move. go before 1pm or you're waiting. cash and pix get you a small discount at some units
