Vila Madalena's fine but check Boteco do Bolinha on Rua Cardeal Arcoverde, Sunday samba draws the same regulars weekly.

fair warning the samba crowd skews older, like 40s and up, so depends what you're after. if you want a younger regular crowd try the Monday chorinho at Bar do Juarez on Rua Fidalgo, way more mixed. tell them you're new and people actually introduce themselves
