What's the actual going rate for a flat white there in 2026, and do cafes in that area quietly charge visitors more than locals? Just want to know the real number before I order.

prices are on the menu, no gringo tax

Right, though sit down spots in Pinheiros will still hand you a printed bill with serviço already baked in.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

true, but check the printed menu not the chalkboard

I was at Vintage Coffee in Pinheiros in January and a flat white ran about R$18 to R$22, closer to R$22 with oat milk. No dual pricing in Sao Paulo cafes, that's not really a thing here. What does catch visitors is the 10 percent service charge on the bill, so budget for that. The coado at smaller botecos nearby is often under R$10 if you want a cheaper baseline.

Tipping isn't expected beyond the 10 percent serviço, and many places now add it automatically for sit-down orders. If you pay by card, check the machine total before tapping, some spots pre-select the service fee. A pão de queijo and pingado combo at a padaria runs R$12 to R$15.

Card machines here default to "credito" too, so say "debito" if you want your checking account and watch the fee screen either way.

The automatic serviço usually only lands on sit-down orders, counter service at padarias is often exempt, so watch which line you're at. On the pão de queijo combo, R$12 to R$15 is right for a plain padaria, but anything with "artesanal" in the name runs closer to R$20.

Machine prompts default to serviço on, so tap "não" first.

Working from Sao Paulo 2026: internet and coworking?

How reliable is the internet in apartments and cafes, and are there coworking spots or quiet places near the Catedral da Sé where I could set up for a morning? Also curious how long most remote workers tend to stay, since I'm weighing a month against something longer.
arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Internet in apartments is usually fine but cafe wifi near Sé is patchy, and coworking is scarce there, so look toward República or Liberdade instead.

arrow_drop_up 9 arrow_drop_down

yeah, and if u want quiet for calls, Pinheiros has way more coworking options than the center anyway.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

the sé area is mostly banks and shops so it empties out after 6, which is actually nice for calls

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Good shout on avoiding Sé, but honestly the coworking in Liberdade is mostly tiny spots that fill up fast.

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Stay near Avenida Paulista instead, the MASP area has 24h coworking and fiber is standard in most buildings there.
