Also curious what the food situation is like there, pastries or actual breakfast?

idk about that specific spot but paulistanos take their coffee seriously so options are everywhere. maybe just wander & see what looks busy at 8am

Fair, but "busy at 8am" skews to padarias doing pingado, so check if they pull espresso or just passable coado before committing.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

agreed, padaria coado is a different drink basically. near there i'd look for a place with a la marzocco on the counter, that's usually the tell. otherwise just ask if they do espresso or only passado na hora

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Vintage's own espresso is solid, pastries are just ok

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah their pao de queijo is the safer bet

wander toward Rua Augusta, 9ish

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

augusta's dead on a sunday tho

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

busy at 8am can just mean commuters grabbing pao na chapa, so peek if the crowd's actually drinking espresso

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Watch whether they're standing at the balcão or sitting, standers drink espresso, sitters order cappuccino.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

true, tho the sit-down crowd is often just working, laptop out, nursing one latte for an hour. standers at the balcão are the real tell for a quick good shot.

I went last year and the pintado na brasa was the standout, though the menu shifts seasonally so check what's running. It's in Pinheiros, easy off the Fradique Coutinho station, so not really out of the way.

Booked three weeks out last time and still got a 21h30 slot only, so plan the reservation early. The moqueca and the pirarucu dishes held up better than the meat, honestly. Worth the detour if you're already spending an evening central.

the tutu de feijao side, don't skip it

Agreed, though I'd ask them to go easy on the farofa on top or it dries the whole thing out. Their tutu comes with a soft poached egg if you ask, which pulls it together. Worth the small extra.

no clue tbh, just book ahead if u go
