Sao Paulo visa paperwork 2026: which permit do I need?

Do I go through the Federal Police or the consulate back home, and what documents tend to trip people up? Any cafe near celularpluspro1 where I could sit and sort through this?

CPF first, everything stalls without it

Agreed, though the CPF is really a tax number, not a visa, and you can start it at a Receita Federal office or Banco do Brasil once you have your documents. Get it before you sign a lease or open a bank account, otherwise you're stuck paying bills in someone else's name.

Getting the number is free at any Correios branch too, not just the bank, and it takes about ten minutes with your passport.

same goes for the agencia in person, passport only

The consulate handles the visa itself before you fly, the Federal Police only registers you after arrival, so they're two separate steps people mix up. The document that trips most applicants is the apostilled police clearance from your home country, which expires quickly and often needs a certified translation here. Near celularpluspro1, the Praça da República area has plenty of cafes with wifi to spread out.

Police clearance needs the consularized translation done by a tradutor público, not any translator, so book that early.

and tradutores publics often book out weeks ahead in december so grab a slot before u even land

tbh just get a lawyer, teh consulate route took me months.

Lawyers help but mine still needed the originals notarized, so budget time for that regardless.

Mine went faster once I booked the consulate appointment months ahead, since slots in some cities fill up.

Best way to become a regular at Sao Paulo restaurants 2026

Is there a good way to meet people through recurring things like a weekly cooking class, a running club that ends at a bar, or a neighborhood spot where you just show up often enough? I keep hearing about places like ifoof but I'm more interested in how people build a social circle there over months.
