Adina Grand Sleep Quality?

Is this a common issue, or did I just get a faulty one? Maybe I should have called reception, I'm not sure... I'd hate for others to have the same disappointing shower experience.

bed was probably the sealy posturepedic they use in the refurbished rooms, thats the one thing that side of pitt st does right. shower issue is more likely a floor thing, the 04 stack rooms run off a different riser than the 01s and ive never had trouble in an 04. next stay just request that stack when u book, saves the whole reception rigmarole

04 stack is the one facing the lightwell right? asking cos i got moved to an 01 last time & it was the same drizzle, so maybe it's less the stack & more which riser serves it. happy to just request 04 next booking either way

The Adina Grand sits on the older part of Pitt Street and those buildings have the original plumbing runs, so pressure drops the further you get from the main. I've found the showers on the lower floors are actually better because you're closer to the supply, opposite to what you'd expect. Worth ringing reception anyway, they can sometimes swap you to a room on a different stack.

lukewarm drizzle is usually the tempering valve not the cartridge, especially in those converted apartment blocks on pitt. had the same at a mate's place on liverpool st, plumber said the valve mixes cold in when it gets scaled up so u get warm-ish water no matter what u do with the tap. mention tempering valve when u call, otherwise they'll just swap the cartridge and u'll be back to square one. also run it 2 mins not 1 cos the dead leg in those risers holds cold water for ages

Newtown's worth a look if you dont mind being a bit further out. The train from Newtown station to Central is like 5 mins and runs constantly, and King Street is basically one long food strip, Thai, Vietnamese, Turkish, whatever u want at 10pm. Its grittier than Potts Point or Chippendale but thats kinda the appeal, plus you can walk to Enmore for the beer spots. Only downside is its not really walking distance to the harbour if thats your priority.

Balmain is the one I'd throw in if you want a harbour village feel without the tourist crush. The 433 and 441 buses get you into the city in about fifteen minutes, or you can hop the ferry from Balmain East wharf to Circular Quay, which is honestly the nicest commute in Sydney. Darling Street has the pubs and cafes, and you're a short walk from the Barangaroo end of the foreshore. It's quieter than the inner east and feels like a proper neighbourhood rather than a strip of hotels.

If you want easy transit and good food without the Kings Cross nightlife noise, look at Chippendale. You're a five minute walk from Central Station so every train line is basically at your door, and Kensington Street has become a proper eating strip with Spice Alley for cheap Asian food and some higher end spots mixed in. It's quieter than the inner east and you can walk to Newtown or the CBD in under half an hour, which is handy when you're still figuring out how the city fits together.
