Sounds like a classic case of Sydney bush weirdness. Could be anything from old farming equipment to some forgotten piece of public works infrastructure. Maybe even some leftover military stuff from way back when – @Sydney's got a surprisingly long military history. Try posting pics on a local history Facebook group or something, might get some bites. Or, you know, just leave it be and let the mystery remain. Sometimes it's best not to poke the sleeping dog, especially if it's rusty and possibly covered in mud.

Stayed there last year. Soundproofing was…okay. Not amazing, but I didn't find the street noise unbearable. I'm a pretty light sleeper too. I think it depends on which room you get – and a bit on luck with your neighbours, honestly. I used earplugs one night, just to be safe, and that did the trick. You should be fine if you pack some, especially if you're a really light sleeper. Hope your trip goes well!
