**🍖 Barbecue and Southern Staples** Little Rock's barbecue scene is anchored by places like Whole Hog Cafe at 2516 Cantrell Road, where the pulled pork plate runs about $12 and the mustard-based sauce is a local favorite. For classic Southern meat-and-three, head to The Root Cafe at 1500 Main Street, open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with plates around $10 to $14. Jones Bar-B-Q Diner in Marianna is a bit of a drive, but it's the oldest Black-owned restaurant in the country and worth the trip for its chopped pork sandwich at under $6. **🌮 Mexican and Latin Flavors** The taquerias along Geyer Springs Road in southwest Little Rock serve some of the best tacos in town, with spots like Taqueria El Palenque at 6920 Geyer Springs Road offering three tacos for about $7. For a sit-down meal, try Buenos Aires Grill at 4200 S University Avenue, where the mixed grill for two costs around $45 and the chimichurri is made fresh daily. Don't miss the pupuserias in the Granite Mountain neighborhood, where you can get a plate of pupusas for $8 to $10. **🍗 Soul Food and Comfort Eats** Soul food is a cornerstone of Little Rock dining, and Lassis Inn at 518 E Roosevelt Road has been serving fried fish and fixings since 1905, with plates around $12 to $15. For fried chicken, head to K. Hall & Sons at 1900 Wright Avenue, where the chicken dinner with two sides is about $11 and the doors open at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The family-run Sims Bar-B-Que at 7601 Geyer Springs Road also offers hearty soul food plates for under $14. **🍽️ Fine Dining and Date Nights** For a special evening, One Eleven at the Capital Hotel, 111 W Markham Street, offers a refined Southern menu with entrees in the $30 to $45 range and a wine list that highlights Arkansas vineyards. The Pantry at 11401 N Rodney Parham Road serves European-inspired dishes with a local twist, and the cozy atmosphere makes it a great spot for a date, with mains around $25 to $35. Reservations are recommended for both, especially on weekends. **🍰 Bakeries and Sweet Treats** Little Rock's sweet tooth is well served by places like Community Bakery at 1200 Main Street, where a slice of cake or a pastry costs about $4 to $6 and the coffee is locally roasted. For a classic Southern dessert, try the banana pudding at The Root Cafe or the pecan pie at Honey Pies at 2604 Kavanaugh Boulevard, where whole pies run $25 to $30. Dempsey Bakery at 323 S Cross Street is a gluten-free favorite, with cookies and cupcakes around $3 each. **🍺 Breweries and Casual Bites** Little Rock's brewery scene has grown, and Lost Forty Brewing at 501 Byrd Street offers tours and tastings, with most pints around $6 and a menu of snacks like pretzels and beer cheese for $8 to $12. Stone's Throw Brewing at 402 E 9th Street is a smaller nano-brewery with a rotating tap list and food trucks parked outside on weekends. For a casual bite with local beer, Rebel Kettle Brewing at 822 E 6th Street serves burgers and sandwiches in the $10 to $15 range. **🌯 Street Food and Quick Eats** Food trucks cluster around the River Market District, especially on weekends, with options like tacos, gyros, and barbecue sandwiches for $5 to $10. The Little Rock Farmers' Market on Saturdays at 400 President Clinton Avenue also has vendors selling prepared foods like tamales and empanadas for around $5. For a quick bite, try the chicken and waffle cone at The Flying Fish at 511 President Clinton Avenue, which costs about $9 and is open daily from 11 a.m. **💸 Budget Dining Tips** Many of Little Rock's best food values are found at lunchtime, when places like The Root Cafe and K. Hall & Sons offer specials for under $10. The city's food truck scene and taquerias are also great for cheap eats, with most items priced between $5 and $10. Keep an eye out for happy hour deals at breweries and bars, where you can often get discounted appetizers and drinks from 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
