**🏞️ Stroll Around Lake Shorabil** Lake Shorabil is the city's favorite spot for a leisurely walk, especially in the late afternoon when locals gather to watch the sunset. The 2.5-kilometer paved path around the lake is perfect for jogging or cycling, and pedal boats are available for rent at around 100,000 rials per hour. In summer, the lakeside cafes serve traditional Iranian tea and kebabs until midnight, making it a lively evening destination. **🕌 Explore the Old Bazaar** The historic Ardabil Bazaar is a labyrinth of covered alleys dating back to the Safavid era, and it's still the commercial heart of the city. Wander through the spice section for saffron and dried herbs, or visit the coppersmiths' row where artisans hammer intricate designs. It's busiest on Fridays from 9 AM to 1 PM, but most shops open daily from 9 AM to 8 PM, except during the midday prayer break. **🛁 Soak in Sarain Hot Springs** About 25 kilometers southwest of Ardabil, the Sarain hot springs are renowned for their mineral-rich waters that supposedly help with joint pain and skin conditions. The complex has separate pools for men and women, with private rooms available for families at around 500,000 rials per hour. Bring your own towel and flip-flops, as rentals are limited, and go on a weekday to avoid the crowds. **🏛️ Visit the Sheikh Safi Shrine** This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the burial place of Sheikh Safi al-Din, the founder of the Safavid Sufi order, and it's a masterpiece of Persian architecture. The intricate tile work and the famous Allah Allah dome are highlights, and the on-site museum displays ancient manuscripts and weapons. Entry costs 300,000 rials for foreign visitors, and it's open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM, except during mourning periods. **🍲 Taste Local Cuisine** Ardabil is famous for its hearty Azeri cuisine, and you shouldn't miss trying the local dish called 'Bozbash' at traditional restaurants like Haji Baba. For a quick bite, head to the food stalls near the bazaar for 'Dizi' (lamb stew) served with fresh bread for around 200,000 rials. Don't leave without sampling the local honey and dairy products, which are sold in shops along Imam Khomeini Street. **🌲 Hike in Fandoghloo Forest** Just 25 kilometers east of Ardabil, Fandoghloo Forest is a lush paradise known for its hazelnut trees and scenic hiking trails. The best time to visit is from May to October when the weather is mild, and you can hire a local guide for about 1,000,000 rials for a half-day trek. Pack a picnic, as there are few facilities, but you'll find small tea houses at the entrance selling hot drinks and snacks. **🛍️ Shop for Local Crafts** Ardabil is a great place to buy handmade carpets, kilims, and silk scarves, and the best selection is at the Carpet Bazaar near the main bazaar. Prices are negotiable, but a small kilim starts at around 5,000,000 rials, so be prepared to bargain. For smaller souvenirs like engraved copper plates or local honey, check out the shops on Saadi Street, open from 10 AM to 9 PM. **🚌 Getting Around and Day Trips** Ardabil has a reliable bus network and shared taxis (called 'darbast') that can take you anywhere in the city for about 50,000 rials. For day trips to the hot springs or forest, hiring a taxi for the day costs around 2,000,000 rials, and your hotel can arrange it. If you're heading to Tehran, night buses leave from the main terminal every hour from 4 PM to 10 PM, and the journey takes about 10 hours.
