**🍸 Where to Start** Kick off your night in the CBD at Maybe Sammy (115 Harrington Street), a glamorous cocktail bar with a 1920s vibe. For a more casual start, head to The Baxter Inn (152-156 Clarence Street), a subterranean whiskey bar with an extensive list. Both are open until 2am on weekends. **🌆 Neighborhoods to Explore** Kings Cross is Sydney's historic nightlife hub, with venues like The World Bar (24 Bayswater Road) offering cheap drinks and a lively crowd. Newtown is the go-to for alternative vibes, with live music at The Vanguard (42 King Street) and quirky bars like The Bank Hotel (324 King Street). Darlinghurst offers a mix of cocktail lounges and LGBTQ+ friendly spots like The Colombian (117 Oxford Street). **🎵 Live Music Venues** For live music, check out The Metro Theatre (624 George Street) in the CBD, hosting international acts with tickets from $50. In Newtown, The Enmore Theatre (118-132 Enmore Road) is a historic venue with a capacity of 1,600, featuring indie and rock bands. For jazz, head to The Basement (7 Macquarie Place), which has shows nightly from 8pm. **💃 Clubs and Dance Floors** If you want to dance, Ivy (320 George Street) is a sprawling complex with multiple rooms and a rooftop, open until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays. Marquee (The Star, 80 Pyrmont Street) is a high-energy nightclub with international DJs, with cover charges around $30. For a more underground scene, Club 77 (77 William Street) in Darlinghurst plays techno and house until late. **👗 Dress Codes and Cover Charges** Most upscale venues in the CBD and Darlinghurst enforce a smart casual dress code, meaning no thongs, singlets, or hats. Cover charges range from free entry before 10pm to $20-$40 after, especially at clubs like Marquee. Always carry photo ID, as it is strictly enforced at all licensed venues. **⏰ Closing Times and Last Call** Sydney's standard closing time for bars is 3am, though some clubs stay open until 5am or later with a special license. Last call for drinks is typically 30 minutes before closing. Check venue social media for extended hours on public holidays or special events. **🚇 Getting Home Safely** Public transport runs until around 1:30am on weekends, with night buses (NightRide) replacing trains after midnight. Taxis and rideshares like Uber are widely available, with surge pricing common after 2am. Consider pre-booking a taxi or using the Sydney Light Rail, which operates 24 hours on weekends. **💡 Local Tips for 2026** In 2026, many venues have introduced cashless payments, so bring a card or mobile wallet. Book tables at popular cocktail bars like Maybe Sammy in advance, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. For a quieter night, explore the speakeasy bars in the CBD, such as Palmer & Co (Abercrombie Lane), which has a hidden entrance and a cozy atmosphere.
