**🏛️ Explore the Kasbah** Start your visit at the Kasbah of the Udayas, a fortified citadel overlooking the Bou Regreg river. Enter through the grand gate, Bab Oudaia, and wander the blue-and-white alleys that inspired many artists. The kasbah is free to enter and open daily from 9:00 to 17:00, though hours can vary slightly on Fridays. Don't miss the Andalusian Gardens inside, a peaceful spot with orange trees and fountains. **🕌 Tour the Hassan Tower** The Hassan Tower is Rabat's most iconic landmark, an unfinished minaret of a grand mosque from the 12th century. It stands opposite the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, where the late king and his sons are buried. The site is free and open daily from sunrise to sunset, but non-Muslims cannot enter the mausoleum itself. Visit in the late afternoon for golden-hour photos of the columns and tower. **🏺 Discover the Chellah Necropolis** Just outside the city walls, the Chellah is an ancient Roman site later turned into a royal necropolis. It's a hauntingly beautiful mix of Roman ruins, Islamic tombs, and overgrown gardens. Entry costs 70 MAD for adults and 30 MAD for children, open daily from 9:00 to 17:30. Look for the eels in the pool near the entrance, which locals believe have healing powers. **🖼️ Visit the Museums** Rabat has several excellent museums, including the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which showcases Moroccan and international works. Admission is 40 MAD for adults, and it's closed on Tuesdays. The Archaeological Museum, near the Hassan Tower, houses Roman artifacts from Chellah and Lixus, with a small entry fee of 20 MAD. Both museums are rarely crowded, so you can take your time. **🛍️ Shop in the Medina** Rabat's medina is smaller and calmer than those in Marrakech or Fez, making it ideal for unhurried browsing. Rue des Consuls is the main artery, lined with shops selling carpets, leather goods, and ceramics. Prices are often fixed in the medina, but polite haggling is still acceptable in smaller stalls. The medina is busiest in the late afternoon and early evening, so go early for a quieter experience. **🌊 Stroll the Corniche** The Rabat Corniche stretches along the Atlantic coast from the Oudayas to the new marina. It's a popular spot for joggers, families, and couples, especially at sunset. You'll find plenty of cafes and seafood restaurants along the way, such as Le Dhow, a boat-shaped restaurant on the river. The corniche is free and accessible 24 hours, but it's best enjoyed during daylight or early evening. **🍽️ Taste Local Flavors** Rabat's food scene blends traditional Moroccan cuisine with modern twists. For authentic tagine, try Dinarjat in the medina, where a meal costs around 200 MAD per person. For a quick bite, head to the Marché Central for fresh seafood grilled to order, or grab a msemen (Moroccan pancake) from a street vendor for 5 MAD. Many restaurants close between 3:00 and 7:00 PM, so plan your meals accordingly. **🚋 Get Around Easily** Rabat has a modern tramway with two lines that connect the city center, Agdal, and Sale. A single ride costs 6 MAD, and a day pass is 15 MAD, available at ticket machines. Taxis are also plentiful and metered, with short trips within the center costing around 20 MAD. Walking is feasible in the medina and kasbah, but you'll need transport for Chellah and the corniche.
