**🦪 Seafood and Oysters** Florianopolis is an island, so fresh seafood is a must. Head to Bar do Arante in Pântano do Sul (Rua Abelardo Otacílio Gomes, 254) for grilled fish and shrimp, open daily from 11:30 to 22:00, with mains around R$70 to R$120. For oysters, try Ostradamus in Ribeirão da Ilha (Rodovia Baldicero Filomeno, 7640), where a dozen fresh oysters cost about R$60, and the view of the bay is stunning. Another favorite is Restaurante do Zé in Santo Antônio de Lisboa, known for its shrimp bobó and seafood rice, open for lunch and dinner, with prices from R$80 per person. **🥩 Churrasco and Steakhouses** No trip to southern Brazil is complete without a proper churrasco. Churrascaria do Mané in Centro (Rua Almirante Alvim, 224) offers a rodízio of grilled meats for about R$90 per person, including a buffet of sides, open daily from 11:00 to 23:00. For a more upscale experience, try Varanda do Lagoa in Lagoa da Conceição (Rua José Henrique Veras, 100), where premium cuts like picanha and ribeye are served with a view of the lagoon, with prices starting at R$120. Vegetarians will also find grilled options like provolone and hearts of palm at both spots. **🍤 Street Food and Snacks** The street food scene in Florianopolis is vibrant and affordable. At the Mercado Público in Centro, you can grab pastel de camarão (shrimp pastry) for around R$15, or a plate of bolinho de bacalhau (codfish fritters) for R$20, open Monday to Saturday from 7:00 to 19:00. In the evenings, the Feira da Lagoa in Lagoa da Conceição (Rua das Rendeiras) has stalls selling acarajé, tapioca crepes, and caldo de cana (sugarcane juice) for R$10 to R$25, running Wednesdays to Sundays from 18:00 to 23:00. Don't miss the hot dog carts near Praia Mole, where a completo (loaded hot dog) costs about R$18. **🐟 Traditional Azorean Dishes** The Azorean heritage of Florianopolis shines in its traditional dishes. Try the sequência de camarão (a multi-course shrimp feast) at Restaurante Ostradamus in Ribeirão da Ilha, which includes shrimp pastries, grilled shrimp, and shrimp rice for around R$150 per person, served daily from 12:00 to 22:00. Another classic is the tainha na telha (mullet baked on a tile) at Bar do Arante in Pântano do Sul, available seasonally from May to July, priced at about R$90. For a taste of Azorean stew, visit Restaurante do Zé in Santo Antônio de Lisboa and order the caldeirada de peixe, a fish stew for R$85. **🍣 Japanese and Fusion** Florianopolis has a surprisingly strong Japanese food scene, thanks to its large Japanese-Brazilian community. In Lagoa da Conceição, Sushi Lagoa (Rua José Henrique Veras, 200) serves fresh sushi and sashimi combos for R$60 to R$120, open Tuesday to Sunday from 18:00 to 23:30. For a fusion twist, try Nori Bar in Jurerê Internacional (Avenida dos Búzios, 1500), where Brazilian ingredients meet Japanese techniques, with rolls like mango and shrimp tempura costing around R$45. The restaurant also offers a happy hour from 18:00 to 20:00 with half-price selected items. **🍰 Sweets and Cafes** Brazilian sweets are a highlight, and Florianopolis has plenty of spots to indulge. At Café Cultura in Centro (Rua Felipe Schmidt, 390), you can enjoy a slice of bolo de rolo (guava roll cake) for R$12 alongside a strong espresso, open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 19:00. For a beachside treat, visit Gelateria Ilha do Gelato in Jurerê (Avenida dos Búzios, 1200), where a scoop of açaí or passion fruit gelato costs about R$15, open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. Another must-try is the pastel de nata at Padaria Pão de Açúcar in Lagoa da Conceição, priced at R$8 each. **🍹 Drinks and Nightlife** The island's nightlife often revolves around food and drinks. In Lagoa da Conceição, Bar do Deca (Rua das Rendeiras, 500) is famous for its caipirinhas made with cachaça or vodka, costing around R$25, and it stays open until 2:00 on weekends. For craft beer, check out Cervejaria Insular in Centro (Rua Bocaiúva, 1800), which offers a flight of six local brews for R$50, open Tuesday to Sunday from 17:00 to 00:00. If you prefer a laid-back vibe, the beach bars at Praia da Joaquina serve coconut water and grilled snacks until sunset, with drinks from R$10. **💡 Practical Food Tips** Most restaurants in Florianopolis include a 10% service charge, so tipping extra is optional. Lunch is typically the main meal, with many places offering a prato feito (plate of the day) for R$25 to R$40, including rice, beans, meat, and salad. Credit cards are widely accepted, but smaller street stalls and beach vendors prefer cash, so carry some reais. Also, note that many seafood restaurants close on Mondays, so plan accordingly.
