**🍽️ Top Restaurants to Try** Start your culinary journey at El Rincón de la Abuela, located at Calle Bolívar 45, where the hearty criollo dishes like asado negro and pabellón criollo are local favorites, with prices around $8 to $12 per plate. Another must-visit is La Casa del Parrillero on Avenida Rómulo Gallegos, known for its grilled meats and generous portions, open daily from noon to 11 PM. For a taste of the sea, try Mariscos del Orinoco on Calle Sucre, offering fresh seafood platters for $15 to $20. **🌮 Street Food and Snacks** Maturin's street food scene comes alive in the evenings, especially around Plaza Bolívar and the Mercado Municipal. Look for arepas filled with shredded beef or cheese, typically priced at $1 to $2, and empanadas sold at carts for around $0.50 each. The best time to sample these treats is between 5 PM and 9 PM when vendors set up along Avenida Bolívar. **🍲 Local Dishes to Savor** Don't miss the chance to try traditional Venezuelan dishes like hallacas, especially during the holiday season, and sancocho, a hearty soup available at many local eateries. Cachapas, sweet corn pancakes filled with cheese, are a popular breakfast item found at places like Arepera Doña Rosa on Calle Monagas, costing about $3. For a unique regional flavor, sample the pescado frito with tostones at riverside stalls along the Orinoco River. **☕ Cafes and Breakfast Spots** Start your morning at Café Maturín on Avenida Juncal, where a cup of locally grown coffee and a pastelito de guayaba will set you back around $2.50, open from 6 AM to 11 AM. Another cozy spot is Panadería y Pastelería La Espiga on Calle Rojas, offering fresh bread and empanadas from 5 AM to 8 PM. For a more substantial breakfast, try the desayuno criollo at El Desayunador on Avenida Las Palmas, which includes arepas, eggs, and cheese for $5. **🍹 Drinks and Refreshments** Cool off with a fresh batido or jugo natural at Jugos y Frutas El Paraíso on Calle Mariño, where a large cup costs about $2 and is open from 7 AM to 7 PM. For something stronger, visit La Cava Bar on Avenida Rómulo Gallegos, which serves cocktails and local beers from 5 PM to midnight. Don't forget to try the popular malta or refresco found at any street kiosk for under $1. **💰 Budget-Friendly Eats** Maturin offers plenty of affordable options, such as the set lunch at Comedor Popular on Calle Zamora, where you can get soup, main dish, and juice for $4, served from 11 AM to 3 PM. Street vendors around the bus terminal sell arepas and empanadas for $1 or less, perfect for a quick bite. For groceries, visit Mercado Municipal for fresh produce and cheeses at low prices, open daily from 5 AM to 5 PM. **🚌 Getting Around for Food** Most of Maturin's food spots are concentrated in the center, so walking is feasible, but taxis are readily available and cost around $2 to $4 per ride within the city. Public buses, known as por puestos, charge $0.50 and run along major avenues like Avenida Bolívar and Avenida Rómulo Gallegos. For late-night eats, it's best to take a taxi, as buses stop running after 8 PM. **📅 Seasonal and Festive Foods** During Semana Santa, many restaurants offer fish dishes like bacalao and cuajado, with prices ranging from $10 to $15 at places like El Rincón de la Abuela. In December, look for hallacas and pan de jamón at Panadería La Espiga, sold by the unit for $3 to $5. The annual Feria de Maturin in September features food stalls with regional specialties, so plan your visit accordingly.
