**🍔 Where to Start** Begin your Denton food tour at the Downtown Square, where you'll find a cluster of beloved spots within walking distance. For a classic Texas burger, head to RG Burgers at 111 W Hickory St, where the half-pound burgers run about $10 to $14 and are served until 9 PM on weekdays. If you're visiting on a Saturday, arrive early to beat the lunch rush and explore the surrounding shops between meals. **🌮 Street Tacos and More** Denton's taco scene is anchored by Taqueria Guanajuato at 1003 E University Dr, a no-frills spot known for its al pastor tacos at around $2.50 each. For something more substantial, try the trompo at El Matador at 1116 W University Dr, where a plate of tacos with rice and beans costs about $12. Most taquerias here open by 10 AM and stay open late, making them perfect for a post-bar bite. **🍗 Southern Comfort Classics** For a taste of Texas comfort food, make a beeline to Rooster's Roadhouse at 113 Industrial St, where the chicken-fried steak (about $15) is a local legend. Another must-visit is the eclectic Greenhouse Restaurant at 600 N Locust St, which serves Southern-inspired dishes with a focus on fresh, local ingredients. Both spots get busy on weekend evenings, so consider an early dinner to avoid the wait. **🍕 Pizza and Italian Favorites** Pizza lovers should check out J&J's Pizza at 118 W Oak St, a Denton institution since 1977, where a large pepperoni pie costs around $18. For a more upscale Italian meal, try Giuseppe's at 821 N Elm St, known for its house-made pasta and entrees in the $16 to $24 range. Many pizza places on the Square offer slices until late, which is great for a quick bite after a show. **🥩 Steakhouses and BBQ** Denton does barbecue right at Metzler's at 2101 S Interstate 35 E, where brisket plates start at about $16 and the smokehouse aroma hits you from the parking lot. For a classic steak dinner, head to the Texas Roadhouse at 2817 S Interstate 35 E, but be prepared for a wait on weekends. Local tip: Metzler's often sells out of ribs by early evening, so go for lunch if you have your heart set on them. **🍰 Sweet Treats and Desserts** No food tour is complete without dessert, and Denton delivers at Beth Marie's Old Fashioned Ice Cream at 117 W Hickory St, where a single scoop is about $4 and the flavors rotate seasonally. For baked goods, stop by the Denton Community Market on Saturdays (9 AM to 1 PM) at 317 W Mulberry St, where local vendors sell everything from cinnamon rolls to gluten-free brownies. If you're craving something chocolatey, the chocolate mousse at Greenhouse Restaurant is a standout. **🍺 Breweries and Casual Bites** Denton's craft beer scene pairs perfectly with casual eats. Armadillo Ale Works at 221 S Bell Ave offers a rotating food truck schedule and pints around $6, while the taproom at Denton County Brewing Co. at 200 E McKinney St often hosts pop-up kitchens. For a sit-down meal with your beer, try the burgers at East Side Denton at 117 E Oak St, where you can enjoy your food on the dog-friendly patio. **💡 Local Tips and Budgets** Most Denton restaurants are casual, so you can leave the dress code at home. A typical meal at a mid-range spot will cost $12 to $20 per person, while street tacos and food trucks offer great value at under $10. Parking around the Square is free for two hours, but it fills up quickly on weekend evenings, so consider using the free trolley or ride-sharing. Many kitchens close by 9 PM on weekdays, so plan your dinner accordingly.
