**🍽️ Where to Start** Begin your culinary tour at the Grand Marché, the city's bustling central market, where you'll find a maze of food stalls serving local staples. Try the grilled fish with akume (fermented corn dough) at Chez Nana, a popular spot near the market's northern entrance, for about 2,000 to 3,500 CFA. Arrive before noon to catch the freshest catch and avoid the midday crowds. **🍤 Seafood Delights** Lomé's coastline means exceptional seafood, and the beachside restaurants along Boulevard du Mono are the place to go. Le Galion, at 45 Boulevard du Mono, serves a spectacular whole grilled lobster for around 12,000 CFA, with a view of the Atlantic. For a budget-friendly option, try the fried shrimp at Chez Alice, a small shack near the fishing port, where a generous plate costs about 3,000 CFA. **🍢 Street Food Favorites** Don't miss the street food scene, especially in the Kodjoviakopé neighborhood, where vendors grill brochettes (skewered meat) over charcoal every evening. A stick of beef or chicken brochette costs 500 to 1,000 CFA, and they're best enjoyed with a sprinkle of spicy pepper sauce. For a quick breakfast, grab a bowl of kom (millet porridge) with beignets from a cart on Rue du Marché, a filling meal for under 1,000 CFA. **🍛 Local Dishes to Try** Beyond akume, sample fufu (pounded yam or cassava) served with a rich peanut or palm nut soup, a Togolese comfort food. At La Belle Époque, on Avenue de la Libération, the fufu with goat meat in peanut sauce is a standout at 4,500 CFA. Another must-try is ablo, a steamed corn cake, often eaten with grilled fish or a spicy tomato sauce, available at many small eateries like Chez Maman in the Bè neighborhood for about 1,500 CFA. **🍰 Sweet Treats** For dessert, head to the Patisserie de la Paix on Rue du Commerce, where you'll find excellent French-style pastries like éclairs and tarts, priced between 800 and 1,500 CFA. For a local twist, try the coconut candy sold by street vendors near the beach, a chewy sweet made from fresh coconut and sugar for just 500 CFA. Wash it down with a refreshing bissap (hibiscus) juice, available at most juice bars for 500 CFA. **🌆 Evening Dining Spots** As the sun sets, the Nyékonakpoé district comes alive with open-air restaurants and bars. Le Coco Beach, located on the beach road, offers a romantic setting with grilled fish and seafood platters, averaging 8,000 to 15,000 CFA per person. For a lively atmosphere, try Maquis du Port, a popular spot near the port serving grilled chicken and alloco (fried plantains) for around 3,500 CFA, with live music on weekends. **💵 Budget and Prices** Eating out in Lomé is generally affordable, but prices vary widely by venue. Street food and small maquis (local eateries) offer meals for 1,000 to 3,000 CFA, while mid-range restaurants charge 5,000 to 10,000 CFA for a main course. Upscale dining, especially in hotels like the Hotel du 2 Février, can exceed 20,000 CFA per person. Carry cash, as many smaller establishments do not accept credit cards. **🚌 Getting to Food Hubs** To reach the best food spots, use shared taxis (known as 'zemidjans' for motorcycles) or regular taxis, which are inexpensive and plentiful. A zemidjan ride within the city costs about 300 to 500 CFA, while a taxi for a longer trip, such as from the airport to the Grand Marché, is around 1,500 CFA. Most food hubs are concentrated in the city center, so walking is also an option if you're staying nearby, but be mindful of the heat and stay hydrated.
