**🗺️ Day 1: Old City** Start your trip in the heart of Kathmandu, the historic old city. Begin at Kathmandu Durbar Square (admission around 1000 NPR for foreigners, open daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM). From there, wander through the narrow alleys to the bustling Indra Chowk and Asan Tole markets, where you can sample local snacks like samosas and chatpate. **🏛️ Day 1 Afternoon: Swayambhunath** After lunch, head to Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, perched on a hill west of the city. It takes about 30 minutes by taxi from the old city, costing roughly 500 NPR. Climb the 365 steps to the top for panoramic views of the valley and to see the iconic white dome and golden spire. **🌆 Day 1 Evening: Thamel** In the evening, explore Thamel, Kathmandu's tourist hub, which is a 15-minute walk from Swayambhunath downhill. Enjoy dinner at one of the many rooftop restaurants, such as OR2K (located at Mandala Street, open until 10:00 PM), which serves Middle Eastern and local dishes. Afterward, stroll through the lively streets filled with shops selling pashminas, trekking gear, and souvenirs. **🏞️ Day 2: Patan** Dedicate your second day to Patan, the sister city across the Bagmati River, just 5 kilometers from central Kathmandu. Take a taxi or local bus from Ratna Park to Patan Durbar Square, a journey of about 30 minutes. The square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to the Krishna Mandir temple and the Patan Museum (open 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, entry 1000 NPR). **🛍️ Day 2 Afternoon: Local Crafts** After exploring the square, visit the nearby Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar) and the Mahabouddha Temple, both within a 10-minute walk. Patan is renowned for its metalwork and woodcarving, so browse the workshops along the alleys. For lunch, try Newari cuisine at Cafe de Patan (Mangal Bazar, open from 11:00 AM), where the set meal includes rice, lentils, and curried vegetables. **🌿 Day 2 Evening: Garden of Dreams** Return to Kathmandu in the late afternoon and unwind at the Garden of Dreams, a neo-classical garden near Thamel (entry 200 NPR, open until 8:00 PM). It's a peaceful oasis with fountains and pavilions, perfect for reading or people-watching. For dinner, head to the nearby Kaiser Cafe, which offers a mix of continental and Nepali dishes in a garden setting. **🏔️ Day 3: Bhaktapur** On your final day, take a day trip to Bhaktapur, about 13 kilometers east of Kathmandu. The drive takes 45 minutes to an hour by taxi (around 2000 NPR one way) or by local bus from Bagbazar. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is a living museum of medieval architecture, with the 55-Window Palace and Nyatapola Temple as highlights. Entry is 1500 NPR for foreigners, and the square is open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. **🍮 Day 3 Afternoon: Local Flavors** Spend your afternoon wandering the pottery square in Bhaktapur, where you can watch artisans at work and even try your hand at the wheel. Don't miss the local specialty, juju dhau, a creamy yogurt dessert sold in clay pots at shops near the square. Before heading back, climb to the top of the Dattatreya Temple for a final view of the city's red-brick rooftops.
