**🍽️ Where to Start** Begin your culinary journey at Restaurant Al Amal on Avenue Mohammed V, a local favorite for traditional Moroccan dishes. Their couscous royale (50 MAD) and tagine kefta (40 MAD) are consistently praised. Open daily from noon to 10 PM. **🥘 Must-Try Dishes** Don't miss the region's specialty, tanjia, a slow-cooked meat dish seasoned with saffron and preserved lemon. You'll find excellent versions at Chez Hassan near the main square for around 35 MAD. Another local staple is rfissa, a savory chicken and lentil dish served with msemen pancakes. **🌮 Street Food Stalls** For a quick bite, head to the souk area off Rue Ibn Sina, where vendors sell grilled sardines (10 MAD for three) and spicy merguez sandwiches (15 MAD). Try the stall run by Ahmed near the spice market for the best msemen drizzled with honey and butter. **🍰 Sweet Treats** Satisfy your sweet tooth at Patisserie Al Jawda on Avenue Hassan II, known for its chebakia (sesame cookies in honey) and sellou (a nutty semolina paste). A small box costs around 20 MAD. For fresh fruit juices, stop by the stall at Place El Massira for a 10 MAD orange juice. **☕ Café Culture** Experience local café life at Café de la Paix on Avenue Mohammed V, where a mint tea costs 8 MAD and people-watching is free. For a stronger brew, try Café Atlas near the bus station, serving excellent espresso for 5 MAD. Both are open from 7 AM to 10 PM. **💰 Price Guide** A full meal at a mid-range restaurant like Restaurant Al Amal costs 50-80 MAD per person. Street food meals rarely exceed 25 MAD. A cup of mint tea averages 5-10 MAD. Tipping 5-10% is customary but not mandatory. **📍 Best Neighborhoods** The area around Place El Massira is the heart of the food scene, with numerous stalls and casual eateries. For a more local experience, explore the narrow alleys of the old medina near Rue Sidi Bou Othmane, where family-run shops serve authentic home-style dishes. **🕒 Timing Tips** Lunch is typically served from noon to 2 PM, with many restaurants closing between 2 PM and 5 PM. Dinner starts around 7 PM, but street food stalls are most active from 6 PM to 10 PM. Friday couscous is a tradition, so book ahead at popular spots.
