**🗺️ Day 1: Historic Center** Start your first day in the Plaza de Armas, the heart of the city, where you can admire the Cathedral and the Palacio de Gobierno. Visit the Museo Regional Potosino (address: Plaza de Aranzazu s/n, open Tue-Sun 10am-6pm, admission about $50 MXN) to understand the region's history. For lunch, head to the nearby Mercado Hidalgo (Calle Manuel José Othón 130) for local specialties like enchiladas potosinas. In the afternoon, walk to the Templo de la Compañía and the Callejón del Beso, a narrow alley with a romantic legend. **🏛️ Day 1: Museums and Culture** After lunch, explore the Museo Nacional de la Máscara (Plaza del Carmen 20, open Tue-Sun 10am-6pm, admission $40 MXN), which houses an impressive collection of Mexican masks. Then, visit the Teatro de la Paz (Villerías 200), a stunning 19th-century theater; guided tours are available for $30 MXN. End your cultural afternoon at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Calle Colón 325, open Tue-Sun 10am-6pm, free on Sundays). These sites are all within a 10-minute walk of each other, so you won't waste time on transit. **🌆 Day 1: Evening Stroll** As the sun sets, take a leisurely walk along the Calzada de Guadalupe, a pedestrian-friendly avenue lined with historic mansions and cafes. Stop for dinner at La Parroquia (Calle Francisco I. Madero 300), a traditional restaurant serving regional dishes like cabrito, with mains around $150 MXN. After dinner, enjoy the illuminated facades of the cathedral and the Palacio de Gobierno, which are especially photogenic at night. This area is safe and lively, with plenty of locals out for their evening paseo. **🏞️ Day 2: Huasteca Potosina** Dedicate your second day to the Huasteca Potosina, a lush region of waterfalls and rivers about a 2-hour drive from the city. Join a guided tour (around $1,200 MXN per person, including transport and lunch) that stops at the Cascada de Tamul, where you can take a boat ride to the base of the 105-meter waterfall. Then, visit the Puente de Dios, a natural limestone bridge with turquoise pools perfect for swimming. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a swimsuit; the tour typically runs from 8am to 7pm. **🚌 Getting Around** For the Huasteca tour, most operators pick you up from your hotel, so you don't need to worry about public transit. In the city, use the eco-buses (a modern BRT system) for quick hops; a single ride costs $10 MXN and routes cover the main avenues. Taxis are abundant and inexpensive, with short trips within the historic center costing about $50 MXN. If you prefer to drive, note that parking in the center can be tricky, so use the underground lot at Plaza del Carmen ($20 MXN per hour). **⛰️ Day 3: Real de Catorce** On your final day, take a day trip to Real de Catorce, a former silver-mining town in the mountains, about a 3-hour drive from San Luis Potosi. The journey includes a thrilling ride through the Ogarrio Tunnel, a 2.3-kilometer passage that opens into the town's cobblestone streets. Explore the Parroquia de la Purísima Concepción and the Museo de la Parroquia (open daily 9am-5pm, donation suggested). For lunch, try the local gorditas at El Jardin restaurant, with meals under $100 MXN. Return to the city by early evening, as the drive back takes about 3 hours. **🍽️ Where to Eat** Beyond the tourist spots, locals flock to the fondas in the Barrio de San Miguelito, where you can enjoy a hearty comida corrida (set lunch) for $80 MXN. For a modern twist on regional cuisine, book a table at La Casa del Marqués (Calle Morelos 740), where a three-course dinner costs around $400 MXN. Don't miss trying the local dulce de leche and the famous San Luis Potosi-style enchiladas, which are filled with potatoes and carrots. Most restaurants in the center are open from 8am to 10pm, but many close between 5pm and 7pm, so check ahead. **💡 Practical Tips** The best time to visit is from October to March, when temperatures are mild and rain is less frequent. Carry cash, as many small vendors and markets do not accept credit cards, and ATMs are plentiful in the center. Learn a few basic Spanish phrases; while some tourist spots have English menus, most locals appreciate any effort. Always confirm tour prices and schedules in advance, as they can vary by season, and book your Real de Catorce trip at least a day ahead.
