**🏯 Start at Sendai Castle** Begin your visit at Sendai Castle, also known as Aoba Castle, perched on Mount Aoba with sweeping city views. The ruins are free to explore, and the nearby Sendai City Museum (address: 26-1 Kawauchi, Aoba Ward) offers context on the Date clan for 600 yen. Arrive early to catch the morning light over the city, and take the Loople Sendai bus (260 yen per ride) from JR Sendai Station to reach the site. **⛩️ Visit Osaki Hachimangu Shrine** Osaki Hachimangu Shrine, a National Treasure, showcases stunning Momoyama-style architecture with intricate carvings and gold leaf. The shrine is a 20-minute bus ride from Sendai Station, or you can walk from the nearby subway station (Tozai Line, Hachiman Station). Entry to the main hall is 300 yen, and the grounds are peaceful for a stroll. Time your visit for a festival if you can, as the shrine hosts lively events throughout the year. **🌿 Explore the Jozenji-dori Avenue** Jozenji-dori is Sendai's iconic tree-lined boulevard, famous for its zelkova trees and bronze statues. In summer, the avenue hosts the Tanabata Festival, but year-round it's a pleasant walk connecting the city center to the west. Stop by the Sendai Mediatheque (address: 2-1-1 Kasuga-cho, Aoba Ward), a striking glass building with free art exhibitions and a library. The avenue is especially beautiful in autumn when the leaves turn golden. **🍱 Sample Local Delicacies** Sendai is known for gyutan (grilled beef tongue), and you can't leave without trying it at a specialist like Aji Tasuke (address: 4-4-1 Ichibancho, Aoba Ward), where a set meal costs around 1,500 yen. For a lighter bite, try zunda mochi, a sweet soybean paste over rice cakes, available at many shops including Zunda Saryo in the JR Sendai Station area. Don't miss the morning market at Asaichi, near the station, for fresh seafood and local produce. **🚋 Ride the Loople Sendai Bus** The Loople Sendai bus is a convenient hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus that loops through major attractions like the castle, Osaki Hachimangu, and the Zuihoden Mausoleum. A one-day pass costs 620 yen, which is cheaper than buying individual tickets, and includes discounts at some venues. The bus runs every 15 to 20 minutes from 9 a.m. to around 5 p.m., so plan your day around the schedule. You can buy the pass at the Sendai Station Tourist Information Center. **🌃 Evening Stroll in Kokubuncho** Kokubuncho is Sendai's largest entertainment district, packed with izakayas, bars, and restaurants. For a local experience, head to a standing sushi bar like Sushi Zanmai, where you can enjoy fresh nigiri for about 1,000 yen. The area is lively at night, but it's also safe and welcoming to visitors. If you prefer a quieter evening, walk along the Hirose River, which is illuminated after dark. **🛍️ Shop at Sendai's Arcades** The covered shopping arcades of Clis Road and Ichibancho offer a sheltered, bustling shopping experience in the heart of the city. You'll find everything from souvenir shops selling traditional crafts to trendy fashion boutiques and electronics stores. For a unique gift, look for Sendai hira, a local lacquerware, or kokeshi dolls. The arcades are just a short walk from JR Sendai Station, and they're especially pleasant on rainy days. **🌸 Seasonal Highlights** Sendai's seasons bring distinct charms: cherry blossoms in late March at Tsutsujigaoka Park, summer's Tanabata Festival in August, and fiery autumn leaves at Dainenji Temple in November. Winter is quieter but offers illuminations along Jozenji-dori and hot springs nearby. Check the official Sendai tourism website for exact dates, as they shift slightly each year. No matter when you visit, there's always something in bloom or on display.
