**🗺️ Day One: Old City** Start your trip at the Kirkuk Citadel, perched on a 40-meter-high mound. Explore the winding alleys and visit the historic Great Mosque, then walk down to the bustling Qaysari Bazaar for lunch. In the afternoon, head to the Kirkuk Museum on Qal'a Street to see artifacts from the region's ancient past. **🏛️ Day Two: Modern Kirkuk** Begin at the Martyrs' Monument in the city center, a striking symbol of Iraqi resilience. Then visit the Kurdish Textile Museum on Azadi Street to see traditional weaving. After lunch, take a taxi (about 15 minutes) to the Christian quarter, where you can visit the Chaldean Cathedral of the Virgin Mary. **🌳 Day Three: Parks and Markets** Spend the morning at Qishla Park, a green oasis near the river, perfect for a leisurely stroll. Then explore the vibrant vegetable and spice market on Rizgary Street, where you can sample local produce. In the afternoon, visit the Kirkuk Citadel's archaeological site for a final dose of history. **🚕 Getting Around** Taxis are the most practical way to move around Kirkuk, with fares typically starting at 2,000 IQD for short trips. Shared minibuses cover main routes for 500 IQD, but they can be crowded. Always agree on the fare before starting your journey, and expect traffic delays during rush hours (8-9 AM and 4-6 PM). **🍢 Where to Eat** For authentic Kurdish cuisine, try Shawarma House on Baban Street, where a wrap costs 3,000 IQD. For a sit-down meal, head to Babylon Restaurant on Qal'a Street, offering grilled kebabs and rice for around 10,000 IQD per person. Don't miss the local specialty, kebab khashkhash, a spicy lamb dish. **🏨 Where to Stay** The Kirkuk Grand Hotel on Azadi Street offers comfortable rooms with breakfast from 60,000 IQD per night. For a budget option, the Al-Rasheed Hotel near the bus station charges about 30,000 IQD. Book in advance, especially during spring festivals, as availability can be limited. **💡 Practical Tips** Carry small bills for markets and taxis, as change can be scarce. Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites; women should cover their heads in mosques. English is not widely spoken, so learning a few Kurdish or Arabic phrases will go a long way. Always check local security updates before traveling.
