**🏛️ Explore Ancient Babylon** Just 5 kilometers north of Al Hillah, the ruins of Babylon are the city's crown jewel. Walk through the Ishtar Gate reconstruction (original in Berlin) and the Lion of Babylon statue. Entry costs 25,000 IQD for foreigners, open 8 AM to 6 PM daily. Go early to beat the heat and crowds. **🕌 Visit the Shrine of Prophet Ezekiel** In the town of Al Kifl, 30 kilometers southeast of Al Hillah, this shrine is a holy site for Muslims, Jews, and Christians. The 14th-century mosque and tomb are free to enter, but dress modestly. It's a 30-minute drive from central Al Hillah; a taxi should cost around 20,000 IQD one way. **🛍️ Shop at Al Hillah Market** The central market on Al Jamhuriya Street is the heart of local life. You'll find fresh produce, spices, and traditional Iraqi sweets like kleicha. It's busiest in the early morning and late afternoon. Bring small bills for easy transactions. **🍽️ Taste Local Cuisine** Try masgouf (grilled carp) at Abu Nawas Restaurant near the Euphrates River. A full meal for two costs around 50,000 IQD. For a quick bite, grab a falafel sandwich from a street stall for 2,000 IQD. Most restaurants open from noon to 10 PM. **🚶 Stroll Along the Euphrates** The corniche along the Euphrates River is perfect for an evening walk. Locals gather here at sunset to picnic and chat. You'll find vendors selling tea and snacks. It's a great spot to relax and people-watch. **🏺 Discover Local Museums** The Babylon Museum in Al Hillah displays artifacts from the Babylonian era. It's located on Al Kufa Street, open 9 AM to 3 PM, closed Fridays. Entry is 5,000 IQD. A small but informative collection. **🌴 Day Trip to Borsippa** About 15 kilometers southwest of Al Hillah, the ancient city of Borsippa features the ziggurat of Borsippa, also known as the Tower of Tongues. It's a lesser-known site, so you'll often have it to yourself. Bring water and sun protection. No entry fee. **🚌 Getting Around Al Hillah** Taxis are the main way to get around; a short trip within the city costs 5,000 to 10,000 IQD. For day trips, hire a driver for about 50,000 IQD per day. Buses connect Al Hillah to Baghdad and Karbala, but they can be crowded. Renting a car is also an option if you have an international license.
