**🏨 Affordable Stays** For budget travelers, dorm beds at the Qom Youth Hostel (near the shrine, around 250,000 rials per night) are the cheapest option. Private rooms in guesthouses like the Karim Khaneh Hotel start at about 1.5 million rials, but you can negotiate for weekly rates. Book ahead during religious holidays, as prices can double. **🍽️ Eating on the Cheap** Street food is your best friend: a fresh falafel wrap from the stalls near the Fatima Masumeh Shrine costs about 80,000 rials, and a bowl of ash reshteh (noodle soup) at local eateries runs 120,000 rials. For a sit-down meal, try the traditional restaurant at the Bazaar-e Bozorg, where a full kebab plate is around 350,000 rials. Avoid tourist-facing cafes near the shrine, which charge double for the same dishes. **🚌 Getting Around** The city's bus network is extremely cheap, with single rides at 15,000 rials, but it can be confusing for first-timers. Shared taxis (savari) along main routes cost 30,000 to 50,000 rials per person, and you can flag them at any major intersection. For the holy sites, walking is often fastest, as the shrine complex is compact and pedestrian-friendly. **🎟️ Free Attractions** The Fatima Masumeh Shrine is completely free to enter, and you can spend hours admiring the golden dome and mirror work. The Bazaar-e Bozorg is a free, atmospheric maze of alleys where you can watch artisans at work without spending a thing. Also, the Qom Museum of Anthropology, located in a historic bathhouse, has free admission on Fridays. **💡 Local Money-Saving Tricks** Locals often eat at home or bring packed lunches to work, so you'll save by buying fresh bread and cheese from the bazaar for a picnic. For groceries, shop at the weekly produce market near the Panzdah-e Khordad Square, where fruits and vegetables are half the price of supermarkets. Also, always ask for the 'local price' at shops, as some vendors quote higher rates for tourists. **🕌 Sightseeing Discounts** Many smaller shrines and mosques, like the Jamkaran Mosque, are free to visit, though you may need to pay a small fee for a taxi to get there. The Qom Bazaar's caravanserai offers free entry and a glimpse of traditional architecture. If you plan to visit the Qom Salt Lake, join a group tour from the city center, which splits the cost to about 500,000 rials per person. **🛌 Seasonal Savings** Traveling in the shoulder months of April and October can cut accommodation costs by up to 30%, as demand drops after Nowruz and the summer heat. During Ramadan, many restaurants offer iftar meals at reduced prices, but note that daytime eating is restricted. Winter is the cheapest time to visit, with hotel rates at their lowest, though the cold can be biting.
