**🌊 Gulangyu Island Escape** Take a 5-minute ferry from the downtown ferry terminal (35 CNY round-trip) to Gulangyu Island, a car-free haven of colonial architecture and quiet alleys. Visit the Sunlight Rock for panoramic views, and don't miss the Shuzhuang Garden, which blends Chinese and Western design. Avoid weekends if you can, as the island gets packed with day-trippers. **🏛️ Nanputuo Temple Visit** Located at the foot of Wulao Mountain, Nanputuo Temple is a bustling Buddhist complex that is free to enter. Climb the steps to see the grand halls and the towering statue of Guanyin, then explore the peaceful rock carvings nearby. The temple is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and you can easily combine it with a hike up the mountain. **🎓 Xiamen University Campus** Xiamen University, often called the most beautiful campus in China, is open to visitors with a free reservation (book online in advance). Stroll through the lush gardens, past the芙蓉湖 (Furong Lake) and the iconic Jiannan Auditorium. The campus is adjacent to Nanputuo Temple, so you can visit both in one morning. **🚲 Cycling on Huandao Road** Rent a bike (around 20-30 CNY per hour) and ride along Huandao Road, a scenic coastal route that stretches for over 30 kilometers. The path passes beaches like Pearl Bay and the Xiamen International Conference Center, with the sea on one side and palm trees on the other. It is best done in the late afternoon to catch the sunset. **🍜 Local Food Tour** Head to Zhongshan Road Walking Street in the evening to sample Xiamen's signature snacks like oyster omelet (海蛎煎) and peanut soup. For a more authentic experience, visit the Eighth Market (Bashi) near the old port, where vendors sell fresh seafood and local delicacies. Try the沙茶面 (satay noodles) at Yuehua Restaurant on 40-44 Zhongshan Road. **🏔️ Wanshi Mountain Hike** For a quick escape from the city, hike up Wanshi Mountain, which is part of the same range as Nanputuo Temple. The trail starts behind the temple and leads to a series of scenic viewpoints and a small waterfall. The hike takes about 1-2 hours round trip, and you will pass by the Xiamen Botanical Garden along the way. **🎭 Evening at Zhongshan Park** Zhongshan Park, located in the city center, comes alive in the evening with locals practicing tai chi, dancing, and playing chess. The park is free and open 24 hours, making it a great spot for a relaxed stroll after dinner. Nearby, the Zhongshan Road area offers plenty of tea houses and dessert shops for a nightcap. **🏖️ Relax at Hulishan Fortress** Built in 1891, Hulishan Fortress is a coastal defense battery with a massive German-made Krupp cannon still in place. Admission is 25 CNY, and the site offers great views of the Taiwan Strait. It is less crowded than Gulangyu and provides a fascinating glimpse into Xiamen's military history.
