**🍽️ Where to Start** Begin your food tour in the Centro, where the concentrated mix of bakeries, lunch counters, and street stalls makes it easy to sample several specialties in one morning. The area around Praça Tiradentes and Rua Dr. Costa Val is especially lively from 7 AM to 2 PM, with fresh pão de queijo and cafezinho available for under R$10. For a proper sit-down introduction, try the prato do dia at Restaurante Sabor Mineiro on Rua Rio de Janeiro, 245, where a full plate with rice, beans, and grilled meat costs around R$25. **🥘 Traditional Mineiro Dishes** Betim sits squarely in Minas Gerais, so the local table leans on feijão tropeiro, frango com quiabo, and tutu à mineira. Restaurante Dona Lucinha, at Rua São Paulo, 1120 in the Jardim das Alterosas neighborhood, serves a generous feijão tropeiro with torresmo for about R$35 and stays open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 AM to 3 PM. For a homestyle version, the small kitchen at Cantina da Vó on Rua Belo Horizonte, 89 in Centro offers a daily rotating mineiro plate for R$22, and the tutu comes with a side of couve and farofa. **🌮 Street Food and Snacks** The evening street food scene picks up around 6 PM along Avenida Amazonas in the Centro, where carts sell pastel de carne for R$8 and caldo de cana for R$5. Look for the cluster near the Betim shopping area on Rua Goiás, where a family-run stall has been frying pastéis and selling espetinhos de carne for R$10 each for over a decade. On weekends, the Feira Livre on Rua dos Inconfidentes (Saturday mornings until 1 PM) adds tapioca crepes, bolinho de bacalhau, and fresh sugarcane juice to the mix. **🍕 Pizza and Evening Eats** For dinner, the Jardim Teresópolis neighborhood has a growing cluster of pizzerias, including Pizzaria Forno a Lenha at Rua das Palmeiras, 310, where a large margherita runs about R$45 and the oven stays hot until 11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. A more casual option is the pizza de bar at Bar do Zé on Avenida Bandeirantes, 780, which serves thick-crust slices for R$12 and cold beer until midnight. If you prefer something lighter, the pastelaria on Rua Olegário Maciel, 45 in Centro keeps its fryers going until 10 PM and offers a vegetarian pastel de palmito for R$9. **🍰 Bakeries and Cafes** Padaria Pão Quente on Rua Dr. Costa Val, 560 in Centro opens at 6 AM and is the go-to spot for fresh broa de milho, sonho, and a strong pingado for under R$12. For an afternoon coffee, Café com Prosa at Rua Antônio Carlos, 210 in the Angola neighborhood serves specialty espresso and a slice of bolo de fubá for R$15, with seating until 7 PM. The newer Padaria Artesanal on Rua Rio Grande do Sul, 98 in Jardim das Alterosas focuses on sourdough and croissants, typically R$10 to R$14, and opens Wednesday to Sunday from 7 AM to 1 PM. **💰 Local Prices and Budget** Budget travelers can eat very well in Betim for under R$30 per meal, especially at lunch counters and street stalls in the Centro. A full prato do dia at most neighborhood restaurants runs R$20 to R$30, while upscale pizzas and sit-down dinners typically land between R$40 and R$70 per person. Keep small bills handy for street vendors, since many carts and stalls do not accept cards, and note that many lunch spots close by 3 PM and reopen only for dinner. **🚌 Getting Around and Timing** Most of Betim's best food clusters sit within a short walk of the Centro bus terminal, which is served by lines from Belo Horizonte and surrounding districts. Local buses run frequently along Avenida Amazonas and Avenida Bandeirantes, and a taxi or app ride between Centro and Jardim Teresópolis costs around R$15 to R$20. Plan lunch between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM for the freshest prato do dia, and arrive at street food stalls after 6 PM when the evening carts set up. **🍹 Drinks and Desserts** Finish a meal with a caldo de cana from the carts near Praça Tiradentes or a slice of queijo Minas with goiabada, often sold as a combo for R$8 at the Saturday feira on Rua dos Inconfidentes. For something colder, the açaí stand on Rua São Paulo, 640 in Centro blends bowls starting at R$14 and stays open until 9 PM. In the evening, Bar do Zé on Avenida Bandeirantes, 780 mixes a classic caipirinha for R$12 and pairs it with small plates of torresmo and mandioca frita.
