I'll be working remotely and want somewhere safe with decent internet and easy access to markets and the corniche. Any recommendations on areas like Al Muntazah or Al Jamal?

honestly if you're working remotely, Al Jamal is quieter than Al Muntazah and the internet is about the same these days. i'd actually lean toward the area around the old city gate, Bab al-Maqam, since you're close to the corniche but also have that maze of little shops for groceries and tea. rent is a bit cheaper there too, and you can walk to the big fruit market on Shari' al-Jamal in under 10 minutes. just make sure your place has a backup generator, power cuts are still a thing

For a month, I'd pick somewhere near the southern end of Al Muntazah, closer to the corniche. The internet there tends to be more stable than in Al Jamal, and you're a short walk to the fish market and the big souq on Shari' al-Muntazah. You'll also find plenty of small bakeries and juice stalls within a few blocks, which makes the daily routine easier.

if you're staying a full month, look for a place near the intersection of shari' al-arba'in and the corniche road. that strip has a few apartment buildings with decent views and fiber optic internet, plus you're right between the main market and the water. the noise from the corniche at night is actually kind of nice, people out walking and the sea breeze. just avoid anything directly above a coffee shop, they blast qat sessions until 2am sometimes
