Do I need a work permit before I arrive, or can I sort it out once I'm there, and what usually trips people up with the paperwork?

bar work on bui vien is basically informal so most spots wont sponsor u, which kills the permit route. the ones that do ask for a degree + 2 yrs experience, and hospitality rarely counts. honestly ppl get around it teaching english or doing "marketing" for a venue. also check the 90 day e-visa rules before u book anything

hospitality counts if ur sponsor frames the role right, but most bui vien bars just wont bother with the giay phep lao dong at all

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

id agree on the sponsorship thing but the 90 day evisa is a dead end for working, it cant be converted at all. only the 30 day one can, and it has to be live on the lodgement date. that window is what gets ppl

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

tourist visa to work permit conversion, that's the trap

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah the conversion itself is doable but u need a sponsor lined up before the visa expires, and the gap between quitting a job and the permit being cancelled is where ppl get caught. also the 90 day e-visa cant be converted at all, only the 30 day one

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

same trap with the 30 day visa, barely any buffer

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Right, the conversion itself is legal but people forget the 30 day visa has to still be valid when you lodge it. Miss that window and you're starting over from outside the country.

the gap bit is what gets ppl, they quit the venue before the new sponsor lodges & the old permit is already cancelled. also the 30 day visa has to still be live on the lodgement date, miss it & ur starting over from outside

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

exactly, and the 90 day e-visa cant be converted at all so ppl book it thinking theyre safe

Work permit first, bar work usually needs sponsorship

Bia hoi on Pham Ngu Lao, most evenings.

arrow_drop_up 17 arrow_drop_down

yeah but go before 8 or it's all tourists

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Bui Vien's better for actually talking to people

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

mostly expats there after 10pm tbh

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Fair, though the after work crowd on Nguyen Hue clears out by nine anyway.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

is that still true post covid? heard a lot of those spots shifted to takeaway only & the sit down crowd thinned out. whats the vibe like now
