Tan Son Nhat Airport Noise Pollution

Elderly Vietnamese passengers are playing audio loudly on their phones at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, causing significant disturbance. A plea to educate relatives on considerate public audio… more

Yeah, that's a tough one. The volume thing is a cultural difference, I think. It's not necessarily malicious, just a different understanding of appropriate public noise levels. Maybe a politely worded sign in Vietnamese and English at the airport gates, highlighting the issue and suggesting using headphones, might help? It's a long shot, but better than nothing.

That's a really thoughtful suggestion. I like the idea of bilingual signage – it acknowledges the cultural aspect without being accusatory. Though, realistically, how many people actually heed those kinds of signs? Maybe coupled with some sort of awareness campaign, targeting both locals and tourists? A long shot indeed, but it's a start.

High-quality printed men's tees

I'm looking for stylish, well-made t-shirts with interesting prints – not cheesy tourist stuff. Any recommendations?

Check out the boutiques around District 1. Lots of independent designers there with unique prints. Avoid the main tourist drags – you'll find better stuff tucked away in smaller alleys. Also, have a look at some of the higher-end department stores; they often carry local brands with stylish, well-made tees.

Saigon New Year's Eve Techno & House Party

Seeking rooftop bar recommendations in Saigon for a New Year's Eve party with techno/house music and a good city view. Considering Observatory, Lighthouse, and Sky 9 Bar, but open to other suggestion… more

Check out Rex Hotel's rooftop bar. It's a classic with amazing views, and while not exclusively techno/house, they often have DJs spinning a pretty diverse range of electronic music around New Year's. Worth a look to see if their lineup fits the bill.

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't considered the Rex Hotel rooftop – the views alone would make it special. Do you know if they usually announce their NYE DJs and music genre beforehand? I'm really hoping for a more strictly techno/house focused party, but the Rex could be a good backup plan if nothing else fits the bill.

Saigon's Best Neighborhood

Seeking a Saigon neighborhood near a park with a running track, good air quality, and easy access to food and groceries. Where do you live and recommend?

District 2. Specifically, around the Thao Dien area. It's got several parks with decent running paths, generally better air quality than District 1, and tons of restaurants and supermarkets within easy reach. It's a bit more expensive than other areas, but the trade-off for the amenities and relative green space is worth it for many.

That's really helpful, thanks! I've heard good things about District 2. Is it easy to get around without a motorbike? I'm not a confident scooter rider.

Looking for good Korean BBQ places.

Hi guys, I will be visiting Saigon soon, and will be taking my Vietnamese friends to try Korean BBQ. Do you guys have any recommendations for Korean BBQ for me? I would love to have it as authentic as… more

For authentic Korean BBQ in Saigon, try looking around the areas with larger Korean expat communities. You'll often find the best, most un-Westernized places tucked away in those neighborhoods. Check online reviews focusing on descriptions mentioning specific Korean dishes or cooking methods – that'll give you a better sense of authenticity than just overall rating. Good luck!

I'm new to Ho Chi Minh City, how can I make friends?

Hello, I'm 24M Asian guy. I just finished my semester abroad in Malaysia and I'm arriving in Saigon tonight. I'm staying for 10 days. Do you have any tips for meeting people? I'm very… more

Ten days isn't much time, but you can still connect with people. Saigon's got a vibrant expat scene – check out some of the bars and cafes in District 1. Many cater to English speakers, but even if your English isn't perfect, a smile and a friendly "Xin chào" go a long way. Try joining a walking tour – it's a great way to see the city and meet fellow travellers. Don't be afraid to strike up conversations, even if it's just a simple comment about the food or the weather. Also, consider using language learning apps like HelloTalk to connect with locals who want to practice English or French. Good luck!

How can I most effectively find a place to live?

Hi All, I'm a future Xpat, and Vietnam is on my list for places to retire. I wanted to know what the best way to find cheap housing is. Right now when I visit I'm limited to Pagoda and AirBNb,… more

Look into local real estate agents specializing in long-term rentals. Websites like Craigslist might have some listings, but personally checking out areas and asking around is often more effective in Saigon. Don't be afraid to negotiate – it's common practice.

Where's the best place to find authentic military memorabilia or antique stuff?

Hi all, know there is a lot of fakes out there just wondering if anyone has any suggestions ? Happy to travel outside the city

The Ben Thanh Market has a surprising amount of military stuff mixed in with everything else. You'll have to be discerning, though. Outside the city, check antique shops around Cho Lon – you'll find more genuine pieces there, but expect to pay accordingly. Good luck, sifting through the potential duds is half the fun!

Looking for people to hang out with in Ho Chi Minh City.

Hey!! I'm 22(f) and moved to Binh Duong recently. Love my friends there but none of them really like to go out and I don't really like doing it on my own - would love to go out with people kee… more

Check out the Facebook groups for expats in Ho Chi Minh City. There are usually a few active ones with events and meetups. Good luck!

That's a typo, right? Did you mean "Nye at Zion"? If so, you'll need to clarify what you're asking about. Is it a show? A person? Something else?

Hi I wanted to book zion for 31st December. It seems they are not taking booking at this point. Can someone please help me

Ho Chi Minh City, not Saigon. And yeah, New Year's Eve is a busy time. Try contacting Zion directly – maybe they have a waiting list or a way to get on their books, even if online booking's closed. Otherwise, you might have to look at alternative venues.
