Best deli sandwich near The Pickle Barrel 2026

fmd_goodThe Pickle Barrel · #sandwich #deli
Visiting soon and staying near The Pickle Barrel. Is it worth grabbing a sandwich there around noon or should I go earlier to beat the line? Also is parking around there a nightmare or manageable? The lot behind the building on Genesee fills by 11, so aim for the residential permit blocks north of Beverly instead.

North of Oakwood works too, but check the signs since some blocks are permit only until 6.

Honestly the permit blocks only enforce until 6pm so an evening sandwich run is way easier, plus you dodge teh lunch crowd entirely.

Those blocks off La Jolla Ave work too, but the 2-hour limit kicks in at 8am sharp so don't linger.

Good call, though the Genesee lot actually has a back entrance off the alley that most people miss.

Fair warning, some of that permit zone is street cleaning until 2 on Wednesdays so read the signs twice.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Agreed on Genesee, though the permit blocks east of Crescent Heights tend to clear out faster than the ones right off the main drag.

go around 11:30, the noon rush at Pickle Barrel gets rough and parking on that block is tight but the side streets off Fairfax usually have spots.

Metered spots on Rosewood, bring quarters.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Quarters are smart, the meters there don't take cards. Just watch the street cleaning signs or you'll come back to a ticket.

Best aquarium in Los Angeles for a 2026 visit?

Parking runs around $10 to $15 depending on the lot, and weekday mornings before 11 are way calmer than weekends. Anyone been to the new touch tanks since they reopened?

The touch tanks are back and the rays are pretty active in the morning. If you want a quieter option, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro is free, though parking in the lot runs about $12.

Agreed on the rays, they're livelier right at opening before the school groups roll in. One catch at Cabrillo: it's closed Mondays and Tuesdays, so plan around that. The grunion run programs in spring are worth calling ahead about.

Their grunion program fills fast, so call the week the schedule posts rather than waiting for spring.

Same day the schedule drops, call at 9am sharp

Good call on the free part. I'd add that you should check the tide charts before you go, low tide is when the touch tank volunteers really get into it. Also bring cash for the donation box, cards aren't always an option there.

Point Fermin lot, free after 6pm.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Lot fills by 5:30 on summer weekends.

Free is a solid draw, but that place is small, you'll burn through it in about an hour. Go on a Saturday if you can, the volunteer tables out front are the best part and they aren't always staffed on weekdays.
