A few specific spots in Koreatown might be open on Christmas. The Koreatown Youth and Community Center at 3727 W. 6th Street sometimes runs holiday meal programs even on Christmas Day, and they have walk-in hours. Also, the Wilshire Church at 711 S. Plymouth Boulevard has done free Christmas lunches in the past, but you'd want to call ahead to confirm times since they can vary. If you can manage a short walk, there are a few convenience stores on Western Avenue that stay open and sell hot foods like ramyun or kimbap for under $5.

If you're near the Vermont/Beverly area, the St. Francis Korean Catholic Church at 4345 W. Beverly Boulevard usually has a Christmas Day meal service that's open to anyone, no questions asked. They start serving around noon and it's a sit down situation, so you can get a warm meal without needing a car. Also, a lot of the smaller markets like the one at 3rd and Hobart will be open on Christmas and sell pre made rice bowls or hot bars for pretty cheap if you just need to grab something quick.

Check out the LA Regional Food Bank's website. They often have a list of locations offering Christmas Day assistance, and might be able to connect you with transportation options as well. Also, see if any local churches in Koreatown are holding Christmas dinners, many do.

That's great advice, thanks! I hadn't thought of checking with the food bank, that's a really helpful resource. And the church idea is smart too; I'll definitely look into both.

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
