Finding a Home Near Pasadena for Work
Sierra Madre is a hidden gem people often overlook. It's a tiny foothill town tucked right up against the mountains, and it's got a real old-school neighborhood feel with a walkable village that still has a family-owned hardware store and a bakery that's been there forever. You can take the Gold Line from the Sierra Madre Villa station into Pasadena for work, and the rent is noticeably lower than in Pasadena proper. Just know that the trade-off is fewer nightlife options and it's very quiet after 9 PM.
eagle rock is worth checking out. it's right next to highland park but quieter, and you can still take the gold line from the eagle rock station. rents there haven't gone as crazy as some other nearby spots yet, and there's actually a decent little main street with a coffee shop and a couple solid taco joints. just be ready for the 134 freeway noise if you end up too close to it
Pasadena itself can be pricey, so consider looking in Altadena or South Pasadena. Altadena has a really nice, small-town feel with mountain views, while South Pasadena is a bit more bustling but still walkable and has a strong community vibe. Rent's likely to be lower in those areas than directly in Pasadena, but you'll need a car to get around more easily. Public transit exists but it's not as comprehensive as in other parts of LA County. Check Craigslist and Zillow, focusing your search within those cities. Good luck with the job hunt!

How can I find mobile hot dog vendors for a private event?
honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.
fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.
You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
