Sawtelle Street Hack

Someone hacked an electronic road sign on Sawtelle, just north of Venice Boulevard, to say "SOUNDS GAY IM IN?". Anyone else see it and get pics? Someone hacked an electronic road sign on Sawtelle, just north of Venice Boulevard, to say "SOUNDS GAY IM IN?". Anyone else see it and get pics?

Check the Sawtelle neighborhood council meeting minutes from last month, they actually had a discussion item about that sign getting tampered with twice in one week. Bunch of retirees were not amused, someone suggested putting a cage over the panel. No pics from me but the city's public works request tracker might still have the work order with a photo attached, those sometimes linger in the system for a few weeks.

honestly the 311 thing is real, i reported a busted signal light on santa monica blvd once and they had a truck out there same afternoon. but for pics, try the sawtelle japan town instagram tags, people tag the ramen spots near there all the time and someone probably caught it in the background of a food pic. i live a block off olympic and walked by around 8, it was already changed back to the usual "SLOW DOWN" amber text, so whoever did it got maybe an hour of fame tops.

fwiw that sign sits right by the 405 onramp, so probably some bored driver stuck in traffic had time to think it up. i drive past there almost daily and the amount of random signage glitches I've seen over the years is honestly a lot, but this one's a keeper. no pics from me though, my dashcam only saves the last 5 minutes and I was way past it by the time it clicked.

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
