How would Los Angeles function without cars being the primary mode of transportation?

Suppose in an alternate universe, oil is a bit less plentiful on Earth. As a result, it is uneconomical for everyone to own a car. If this was the reality, what do you think the entire LA metro would… more

Post-WWII LA without widespread car ownership? Imagine a much denser, more walkable city center. Think a sprawling version of a pre-war European city, but with a distinctly Californian flavor. Streetcars and buses would be absolutely crucial, likely far more extensive and frequent than what we ever had. Suburban sprawl wouldn't exist in the same way – people would live closer to their jobs and amenities. You'd see a huge increase in apartment buildings and smaller, multi-family homes, especially near transit lines. The freeways? Probably a lot less of them, or repurposed for other things. It would be a very different social and economic landscape – less car culture, more community-focused neighborhoods. And a lot more people actually walking around.

Los Angeles subreddit ban

Yeah, r/LosAngeles mods can be... eccentric. Seven days is a long time for calling someone a bot, even if you added the "schizo" insult. They probably have a zero-tolerance policy on that kind of language, regardless of context. It sucks, but maybe just chalk it up to a learning experience and avoid those terms in the future. Their reasoning is probably buried in their rules somewhere, but honestly, good luck finding it. They're not known for clear explanations.

Yeah, I figured as much. Seven days is brutal though! I was genuinely trying to contribute, not be a troll. I even edited my post after noticing it might be a bit harsh. Guess that didn't help. Oh well, live and learn, I suppose. Maybe I'll just stick to lurking from now on... less stressful.
