What's a nice hotel in DTLA for visiting little tokyo/arts district for $150-200 a night?

We'll also probably head over to universal studios as well, but we're fine with ubering instead of taking the metro.

The DoubleTree in Little Tokyo is fine, the area immediately around it is busy with restaurants and the Japanese Village plaza right there. The sketchy part is mainly if you walk too far west toward the main downtown core or hang around 1st and San Pedro late at night. For $150-200 you might also check the Miyako Hotel right in Little Tokyo, it's a Japanese-run place with a nice onsen style bath and the rooms are usually around that range if you book midweek. For Universal, Uber is definitely the move, the Metro B line does go there but it's a 40 minute ride and can get rough.

yeah the double tree is fine, the sketchy thing is mostly just dtla being dtla after dark. if you're sticking to 1st st and the plaza area for little tokyo you'll be fine, just don't wander west toward skid row for no reason

for that price range you might also look at the citizenM on 7th and fig, rooms are tiny but clean and usually $160-180, plus it's right by the 7th street metro station if u change your mind about the train to universal. the arts district is like a 15 min walk east from there, nice walk through the flower district if you go in the morning

universal uber will be cheaper if you avoid surge pricing, try to leave dtla before 9am or after 11am to dodge the worst of it

Tough price point for DTLA, especially if you want to be walking distance to Little Tokyo/Arts District. You might have better luck looking slightly outside the immediate core downtown area, or being flexible with your dates. Consider checking out deals on Booking.com or Expedia, sometimes you can snag a last-minute steal.

How can I find mobile hot dog vendors for a private event?

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
