Hi, r/asklosangeles!

I'm basically out of my meds (Lexapro 10mg) since last week and now getting horrible withdrawal symptoms. I don't have a valid prescription because I was using the meds I brought with me from Brazil. I'm an immigrant and currently adjusting status, for that reason I don't have insurance yet (my medi-cal is supposed to start January 1st). Is there any other way I could get my meds for the next 2 weeks without paying insane amounts of money? I live in West Hollywood, btw. Thanks in advance!

Edit1: I don't have a valid prescription (got my meds in Brazil)

if u can get to a planned parenthood they do sliding scale stuff & some locations have mental health services, but honestly the fastest move in weho is to walk into an urgent care and just be straight with them. there's one on santa monica blvd near la peer that sees a lot of uninsured folks and a gp there can write you a bridge script for generic escitalopram, which is like $10-15 cash at a cvs or rite aid without insurance. bring whatever brazilian box or receipt u still have, even a photo of it helps them confirm the dose.

honestly the county health dept has a program for exactly this, it's called My Health LA and its for ppl in your situation w/out insurance. they actually cover mental health meds at their clinics. the one in hollywood on santa monica near highland i think? worth calling them tmrw morning, they can prob get u seen pretty fast since its urgent w/ the withdrawals

How can I find mobile hot dog vendors for a private event?

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
