Does anybody know where I can get rental assistance?

The balance is almost of 5k dollars, we had explained to the landlord that my mom had lost her job a couple of months ago due to a car accident and it's been quite hard for her to get a job. Me and my two siblings work but since they cut our hours dramatically it's been hard to be able to buy groceries and pay rent plus other utilities for a family of 6. If anybody knows of any rental assistance programs I would appreciate it a lot and thank you. This has really taken a toll on my mental health and I am scared I might end up without a roof over my head. ?

Yeah, check with 211 LA - they can give you a list of local nonprofits that have emergency rental funds. Also, some churches in your area might have small grants or know of resources, it's worth calling around.

You've got a few days before that notice becomes a bigger problem. If you're in LA city proper, try reaching out to Stay Housed LA, they have a network of legal aid groups that can sometimes negotiate with landlords directly and buy you more time. Also check if your mom qualifies for unemployment or disability from the accident, that back pay could help chip away at the balance. The 30-day notice isn't an eviction yet, so don't panic, you still have room to act.

I'm really sorry you're going through this, it's a brutal situation. LA County's Department of Consumer and Business Services runs a rental assistance program that's still taking applications, you can call them at 833-223-7368. Also check with St. Francis Center in the Pico-Union area, they have emergency rental funds for families in crisis and they're known for being quick to respond. If you're in the City of LA proper, the Los Angeles Housing Department's emergency rental assistance portal might have slots open, but you have to get on it early in the morning because they fill up fast.

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
