My husband insists he hates LAX but we're talking a couple hundred in price difference between LAX and any of the other smaller airports like Burbank, Long Beach, Ontario and Irvine.

I know it's popular to hate on LAX, but is it THAT bad that $200+ is worth avoiding it?

Please tell me why from either a traveller's perspective or picking up/dropping off.

Thanks LA Redditors.

honestly $200 is $200 and lax is fine if u plan ahead. for pickup, just have them take the flyaway bus to union station and u grab them there - it's like $10 and totally skips the horseshoe drama. dropping off is easier than pickup tbh, the upper level moves ok if u go after 10am or before 3pm. the real pain is if u try to park or sit in the cell phone lot, that's where u lose ur mind

$200 is $200, so I get it. The real headache with LAX isn't the airport itself, it's the horseshoe. If you're picking someone up, don't park in the lot or sit on the curb. Tell them to take the shuttle to the LAX City Bus Center and you meet them at the stop on 96th Street. It'll save you 45 minutes of crawling through traffic. For dropping off, use the upper level departures and just pull over past the terminals by the parking structures, it flows faster there than the actual curb.

Depends on timing but arriving at LAX is fine, it's the departures curb that's a nightmare.

How can I find mobile hot dog vendors for a private event?

These vendors typically operate from portable carts or vehicles at public gatherings. Does anyone have information on how to contact such vendors or recommendations for reliable services?

honestly the SGV has a ton of licensed cart operators who mostly do private stuff now. look up "hot dog cart catering San Gabriel Valley" on Yelp and you'll get a handful that are fully permitted, which matters if your venue needs a health permit on file. expect around $400 to $700 for a few hours plus a per person minimum, usually 50 or so. the ones based in Alhambra and Rosemead tend to be cheaper than Pasadena because they're not paying that rent.

fwiw the county health dept keeps a public list of permitted mobile food operators, its searchable by city on the LA County Public Health site. filter for "pushcart" or "MFF" and you'll get vendors cleared for SGV zip codes, which saves you the headache of a venue asking for paperwork later. also worth checking with the Old Town Monrovia or Alhambra farmers market folks, the carts there are usually booked solid but they know who's free and they'll pass along names. just dont wait till the last week, good ones book out 2 to 3 weeks in teh summer.

You could try hitting up the folks who set up outside Home Depot or the DMV in El Monte on weekends, a lot of those carts are owner operated and they'll do private gigs if you ask. Just walk up and grab a card, they usually have one taped to the cart.
