if u want something a bit different try the Buckingham Arms off Petty France, proper Young's pub & way less touristy than the main road spots

Agreed on that one, the back room's got proper character too. Only thing is it fills up fast with the MOD crowd from about 5.30, so aim early or you're wedged by the bar.

The Clarence on Whitehall is the one I keep going back to, Sam Smith's prices so you're paying about 3.80 a pint which is unheard of round there. No phones, no music, proper old boozer. Only catch is they close early-ish and it's cash friendly, so don't rock up at half nine expecting a lock-in.

Walkers is fine but I'd take the two min walk to the Red Lion on Parliament St instead. Proper Fuller's ales and less of a scrum on a Thursday. Get there before 6 or you're standing.
best bagels near Boil & Bake in 2026?
Boil & Bake is decent for a sit-down but their rye loaves are teh real draw, not the bagels. Try Ruben's on Tower Bridge Road if you want a proper deli sandwich instead, closer to you than schlepping east.

Northcote Road market on a saturday beats it for a cheap bacon roll, if that's the actual aim.
not really a bagel thing tho, flour station does decent loaves but you're better off hitting paul rhodes' stall for a bacon sarnie before 8

Fair enough, but the salt beef there is the real reason to queue, not the bagels themselves.
