Corner deli on Wentworth does a proper pastrami on rye, but ask them to hold the mustard or it drowns everything.

Fair point on the mustard, it's strong stuff there. Last time I asked for it on the side and they looked at me like I'd asked for a fork. Their rye is baked in house mind, which is half the reason it works.

Rye's the tell, white sliced kills it

Mustard on the side works better than holding it entirely, you still get the tang without teh sog.

Ask them to drain it a bit too, otherwise the bottom slice goes straight to mush by the walk back.

Drowning it is a shame when their caraway seed loaf is the actual reason to go.

the salt beef at the deli on Brushfield is decent but their pastrami is the better shout, pepper crust actually tastes of something. go before 1 on sat, that queue gets grim.

yeah that queue is no joke. fwiw they slice it thicker after 2pm when it quietens down, which i actually prefer. ask for it hand cut if u go late.

pepper crust is the whole point tbh, ask for the end cut if they've got one going, more bark per slice

id skip pastrami & get the salt beef at the little place off Commercial st, way less fuss on a sat

Are there regular disco nights around places like Strobe or elsewhere that have a friendly crowd for someone who doesn't know anyone yet?

check out queer disco nights at Dalston Superstore, the crowd's friendly & regulars actually talk to new faces

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yeah second that, but go on a thursday rather than saturday, way less posey and easier to actually chat. also the downstairs room at Superstore is where the regulars end up later on.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Honestly the disco nights at Queen of Hoxton on Curtain Road are worth a look too, more mixed crowd and easier to slot into.

Grab a spot near the bar early, easier to chat.

Thursday's the better night there, and the courtyard out back is where conversations actually happen before midnight.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Their Sunday afternoon thing is the real gem, same faces every week and way easier to chat than the late nights.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Seconding the Superstore rec, but the real icebreaker is the smoking area out back, way easier than shouting over the music inside.

Kingsland Road, follow the flyers not the door queue

regulars there tend to adopt u after a couple visits if u show up solo & dont cling to a group tbh
