Why do all my local corner shops sell Co-op food?

All small corner shops near me (Hackney) sell Co-op branded meat, foodstuffs etc - have they 'fallen off the back of a van' or is there a legitimate commercial partnership in place? they're a legit co-op symbol group partner, not dodgy stock. the co-op has a whole wholesale division that specifically targets independent shops in areas where they don't have their own stores, so hackney's a prime spot for it tbh. the only real difference is the corner shops set their own prices, which is why you'll sometimes pay more for a pint of milk than you would at a proper co-op on kingsland road. the meat and packaged stuff is identical though, same supply chain

nah it's legit, it's the co-op wholesale franchise model. they supply independent shops with their own brand stock at trade prices, no loyalty card needed. you see it a lot in east london because the margins are better for the shop owners than dealing with the big wholesalers like booker or bestway. the meat's fine too, same stuff that ends up in the actual co-op stores, just without the membership discount

it's the co-op symbol franchise thing, been around for a while now. you'll spot it in loads of corners shops across hackney, especially around mare street and dalston lane. the stock's legit, just the co-op's wholesale supply chain, but the markup can be a bit random compared to a proper co-op store. i'd still grab milk and bread there but wouldn't rely on it for fresh veg, the turnover's just not the same

Is The Crown pub worth a visit in 2026?

fmd_goodThe Crown · #tourism #pint
Stopping by The Crown on a trip next month, is it a decent pub for a pint or just a tourist trap? Any tips on when it's less packed? Stopping by The Crown on a trip next month, is it a decent pub for a pint or just a tourist trap? Any tips on when it's less packed?

Which Crown do you mean, there are dozens in London; the one on Great Portland Street is a solid no-frills boozer, quiet before 5pm on weekdays.

The Crown on Blackfriars Road, different beast entirely.

Great Portland Street one, agree, though it fills up after office hours.
