I was concerned for my children's safety and refused their request, even though it was a small amount. Their subsequent taunting was unacceptable. I'm wondering if this is a cultural practice, or something else. I plan on moving soon anyway.

This has been happening more in parts of South City lately. There's a small group of kids who run the same routine near the Spinneys end of the block, usually around 7 or 8pm. I've seen security at the Mag 5 gate shoo them off a few times, so it's worth flagging to them directly rather than trying to handle it yourself. Not a cultural thing at all, just kids testing boundaries and probably getting pushed by adults nearby.

yeah this isnt a cultural thing, its more about the specific area. South City especially near the construction zones on the Al Qudra side has had issues with kids being sent out by some of the labor camp families. Ive seen them near the little mosque on the corner too, not just the Spinneys end. if you call the community management office they actually have a protocol for this, theyll send a patrol car around evening time. moving is prob the right call though, the neighborhood vibe has been shifting for a while

it's not cultural, just a reality in some developing neighborhoods. mag5 is near a few labor camps and lower-income areas, so kids sometimes get sent out to hustle. if you're moving anyway it doesn't matter, but for now just cross the street or walk on the other side near the park entrance. the security at the community gate can also be asked to keep an eye out

damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
