You'll see the fine on the Dubai Police app within 48 hours usually. If it's a distracted driving ticket, it's 400 dirhams and 4 black points like everyone said, plus the knowledge fee.
What nobody mentioned is that you can actually request a review if you think the camera misread the motion. Go to the app, find the fine, and there's usually an option to dispute it. You'd have to explain you were picking your nose, but the officers reviewing those requests have seen stranger things.
The cameras on Hessa Street and near City Walk are especially bad for false positives with hand movements. If you were in those areas, it might be worth waiting a few extra days before checking. Those cameras sometimes take longer to process.

if you're lucky it might just be a warning since some of the newer cameras in barsha or near the mall of the emirates are calibrated for phone use specifically. but honestly just wait for the sms from rta and pay it on the dubai police app, no point stressing over it.

those al quoz cameras near times square are actually programmed for phone detection at eye level so hand-to-face motions sometimes trigger them. had a friend get flashed adjusting his rearview mirror there and it turned out to be a warning only. check the app saturday morning around 9am, that's when they batch process the weekend footage
worst case you're out 450 aed and some traffic cop has a screenshot for their whatsapp group. could be worse, could've been picking your nose in a school zone

damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door
yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl
The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
