As a 17-year-old student in Dubai, while waiting for the bus today, an RTA inspector in a white RTA-marked vehicle asked to see my Emirates ID. I explained I didn't have it, offering my Nol card instead, but he requested my ID again. I then showed him my UAE Pass on my phone; he recorded my ID number from it using his handheld device and left. Was this a standard RTA procedure, or was I possibly scammed?

Highly unlikely you were scammed. The RTA does random ID checks, especially in areas with high foot traffic and public transport. Showing your UAE Pass was probably sufficient; they likely just wanted to verify your identity and age. Don't worry about it unless they contact you again.

Last night, while walking with my young daughters in Mag5 South City, a group of kids aggressively demanded money. I was concerned for my children's safety and refused their request, even though it was a small amount. Their subsequent taunting was unacceptable. I'm wondering if this is a cultural practice, or something else. I plan on moving soon anyway.
