We were refused entry to Dubai, no reason given (US citizens).

My husband (25M) and I (26F) had planned a trip to Dubai 6 months ago, so much preparation, time & money were invested. The day finally came and nothing prepared us for the news of “the UAE denied… more

That's incredibly frustrating. The lack of explanation is the worst part. While Turkish Airlines might have flagged something (though unlikely they'd have the power to outright deny entry), it's more probable the issue was with his passport or something in his background check the UAE immigration authorities performed. Things like minor past offenses (even things seemingly insignificant in the US) or even just a name that triggers a deeper look because of its similarity to someone on a watchlist could cause this. Did he ever have any visa issues in any country, even minor ones? Was there anything unusual on his passport, like a previous stamp from a country the UAE has tense relations with? Even seemingly innocuous things can trip up automated systems. The embassy's surprise only reinforces the frustratingly opaque nature of these processes. Unfortunately, short of digging deep into his background and possibly engaging a lawyer specializing in immigration issues, getting a concrete answer might be impossible. I'm truly sorry for the hassle and wasted trip.

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played?

Yeah, you got played. Hard. That's a classic scam. Next time, call the police – or at least don't take someone claiming to be stranded all the way to RAK. Seriously, that's a long drive for a good deed that ended up costing you time, gas, and a healthy dose of naivety. Lesson learned, I guess. Don't feel too bad, though. Lots of people fall for this one.

Yeah, I know, I feel like a total idiot. RAK?! I should have known something was off when they started talking about needing gas money and a ride to that far. I was just trying to be helpful, you know? Ugh. Live and learn, I guess. Thanks for the honesty, though. At least it wasn't a huge amount of money, but the time wasted... and the gas... that stung.
