My visa's running out at the end of the year, but I can't work because I'm my dad's caregiver. Any options?
if ur dad is on a dubai residence visa himself he can sponsor u as a dependent, even as an adult, but only if u can prove the relationship & he meets the salary threshold (i think it's 4k aed/month plus housing, or 3k + accommodation from employer). that's the amer path here, not a job. the catch is amer services usually want the sponsored person under 18 for sons, so adult dependents get pushed to a "sponsored by father" humanitarian case, which gdrfa handles case by case at their al barsha office. go in person with his passport, ur birth certificate attested, his ejari & salary cert, don't rely on the call center. timing is tight but a visa run to oman for a 30 day extension buys u room while it processes, just don't overstay or u get the 50 aed/day fine & possible ban
The caregiver angle is worth pushing but not as a family sponsorship, look at getting your father's file flagged with GDRFA as a medical/humanitarian case first. Once there's a documented care dependency, they can issue a special residence permit tied to him rather than to a job, and the Amer center in Al Barsha is where you'd start the paper trail. You'll want his medical reports from the hospital, a doctor's letter stating he needs full-time care, and your attested birth certificate ready before you walk in. Realistically the 30-day extension via a Hatta or Oman border run is your bridge while that processes, so don't let the January date sneak up before you've filed anything.

damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door
yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl
The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
