Finding a rental in Meydan as a local, how hard is it?
honestly this is a known thing in dubai real estate, not just meydan. landlords see a local ID and think you'll be a high-maintenance tenant or that you know the laws too well so they'd rather deal with expats who might not push back on stuff. the whole "owner raised the price" thing is a classic script they use when they find someone else willing to pay more or take fewer cheques.
fwiw you might have better luck going through property finder directly and contacting the listing agent for a different building. some of the newer buildings in meydan like the ones near the avenue have multiple units for rent so if one falls through you can ask about another unit in the same tower. also try mentioning youre a local upfront when you first call, that way they cant waste your time pretending later.
if you want to avoid this bs entirely look at al jaddaf or nad al sheba, theyre 5-10 mins from meydan and the agents there are less likely to play these games since theres more competition between buildings.
Meydan's rental market can be... competitive. Sounds like you're experiencing some seriously frustrating price gouging and blatant discrimination. It's unfortunately not unheard of, especially for locals. Have you considered working with a different agency, or perhaps trying to connect directly with landlords through online property portals? Cutting out the middleman might help level the playing field.
yeah that's super shady but honestly not surprising for dubai real estate. maybe try going through a smaller agency instead of the big ones, they tend to play less games

damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door
yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl
The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
