How was your 2024 in dubai?

What are your highlights of the year? What are your highlights of the year?

2024 was the year I finally got into paddleboarding at Kite Beach, early mornings before the heat kicks in are the move. water's calm, you can see the Burj Al Arab from the water, and the sunrise hits different out there. also discovered that the best karak chai in town is at this random cafeteria in Al Karama called Chai & Karak, 2 dirhams and it's dangerously addictive. tbh the real highlight was just the random nights walking around Al Fahidi, old Dubai at night has this quiet magic that the new parts can't touch

honestly 2024 was the year i finally got into the real dubai, not just the tourist stuff. found this hole-in-the-wall shawarma spot in deira called Al Mallah, been there forever and it's like 5 dirhams for a chicken shawarma that puts the mall ones to shame. also spent way too many friday mornings at the Ripe Market in Al Barsha, the vibe is chill and the avo toast is actually decent. biggest highlight tho was catching a sunset at Al Qudra Lakes, felt like i was in a different planet with the desert all around and the flamingos just doing their thing

tbh my 2024 was all about finding cheap eats that didn't suck. that udon place in JLT called Katsuya, the mentai cream udon is like 25 dirhams and hits every time. also spent way too many evenings at The Block in Al Quoz, the whole industrial area turned art space thing is still underrated. biggest highlight was prob the random friday i ended up at The Courtyard in Al Quoz for their farmers market, live jazz and fresh juice in the middle of all that concrete, felt like a secret

Dubai/Sharjah Road Scam?

I helped a guy stranded on the ring road, gave him a ride to Ras Al Khaima after he claimed to have lost his wallet. Turns out he was fine, just jumped out and vanished. Did I get played? damn u basically did a free taxi run to rak. thing is they usually target cars with a single guy driving & look for dubai plates so u look like u got somewhere to be. best move is roll ur window down like two inches, say u already called the cops for them & keep moving, dont even unlock the door

yeah that's a known one on e311 & the sharjah ring road, usually they wave you down near the adnoc or before the rta cameras claiming wallet got lifted. classic play is they ask for a lift to the next emirate then bail once you slow down, sometimes a second guy on a bike is tracking you. next time just call 999 or drop them at the nearest police point, don't let anyone in your car off the highway ngl

The RAK route is the tell. No one genuinely stranded on the ring road needs to get all the way to Ras Al Khaimah, that's a 90 minute drive. These guys work in pairs and the second car picks them up after they hop out, usually somewhere past the Al Sajaa junction or near the ADNOC on E311. If it happens again, tell them you'll drive them to the nearest police station and watch how fast the story changes.
